West Coast Voom Question

I had made the decision to order the Voom channels when I realized that they were all broadcast off the 61.5 satellite. However, I already have a second dish pointed at 148 for the San Francisco locals. Do people on the west coast really have to put up 3 satellites to get locals and all the HD channels?

You need 3 satellites to get the regular programming and the Voom package but you only need 1 D1000 or 2 D500. You could just swing the dish pointed at 148 to 129 and you won't lose your SF locals on 148. That's what I did.

Is CBSHD on 129 as well? From what I can find it looks like that channel is only on 148 (which gets me back to needing to receive 4 satellites which seems excessive...)

No, but you might have to put up 3 LNBS. :D

I suggest you wait a couple of weeks. Chances are that you're going to be able to get everything you want by using 110/119/129, using whatever combination of dish pans you want. ;)

I moved my 300 dish from 148 to 129. I lost just one channel, KCBS-DT, put I picked up the VOOM HD channels. (Can't see 61.5 from my home.) 129 seems to be working great for both VOOM and the SF locals.

Not all of them but some of them are.
Tony's site has the list here:

All of the SF locals that are on 148 are also on 129. San Francisco is one of those two-dish markets that is going to have to go to one dish.

I'm in the same boat as mdavis333 and larrykenney, I have a Dish 500 and another dish pointing at 148.

Here's my question: will we get a free Dish 1000 upgrade so that we can see all of the SF locals with one dish before the deadline, whenever that is?

Correct. "All of the SF locals that are on 148 are also on 129". What I meant to say was that not all the SF locals are on 129.

I re-aimed my dish pointing at 148 to 129 to get the same locals that are on 148 and Voom. Larrykenney moved his also and he's happy. :)

I don't believe you will get a Dish 1000 upgrade but you can call.

Sure, I will. And Dish will also offer me a cheap upgrade from my 921 to a ViP622 and . . . and . . .

. . . sorry, my capacity for deluding myself is firing on all eight cylinders this morning.
