Peru
Hello, and thank you for this forum. I am a newbie here. I recently moved from Texas to Peru. Today DIRECTV is coming to install a dish and DVR receiver. I do not know the dish specs yet.

My friends here tell me they have brought dishes from Puerto Rico here to get a different programming line up that offered here normally.

I am not interested in local channels in Peru, I would prefer the North American line up.

Can someone please explain what equipment I would need to buy or build myself to achieve this? I know what a dish is and what an LNB is. I do not know about dish sizes.

Please advise, as I am told it is possible to do it here, I just haven't been told exactly how.

Lastly, I am not sure what the difference between FTA satellite is, and regular satellite. Sorry if I am in the wrong forum.

Thanks!

I've been digging and apparently the answer is I can do nothing.

That may be an option if his provider doesn't throttle the connection or have caps like most are doing now.Texas on the other hand has unlimited fios in spots so ...maybe an option if a relative lives there in one of the spots.

Now I am getting mixed information.

People here in Peru are saying that because I am outside the NA footprint, I can't get the signal.

At the same time they say if I have the Puerto Rico smart card and dish, I can get NA programming like TBS, FOX, ABC, NBC, etc. That is all I am looking to do.

Is this possible?

You are certainly outside the NA footprint by some 1500 miles assuming you are in northern Peru.

It might just remotely be possible to get via a subscription some of Dish mexico on 77west with a large dish (maybe 3mtres), here is that package which has your channels. DISH Network on EchoStar 8 at 77.0°W - LyngSat
BUT you need to see it working locally before you make that sort of investment. loads of money!

CNN, Fox, ABC and NBC also do streaming over the internet which could be another possibility.

The Dish smart card in the continetal US are the sames ones for Puerto Rico Dish does not make any smart cards for Puerto Rico only!;)

u can't get locals from puertorico or america because they are out the footprint u can check but u need c-band dish @ least 6 to 8 footer good luck.

probably what he means is a direct tv Puerto Rico equipment or receiver which is on another satelite which is the same one as direct tvla and covers south america.
