I live in Los Angeles, I need to know what I need to get FTA, the pros and cons of FTA, and what channels will I get? (i.e. pay-per-view etc.)

For FTA, you need at least a 30 inch dish, a linear (low frequency lnb).
A motorized dish can work the best for the most variety of satellites and channels.

You can go with a stationary dish if the satellites you want are within 40 degrees of each other in most cases, as long as the stationary dish is over 30 inches.

You will not get pay per views, unless you subscribe to a satellite provider that offers them for a fee. Hence the name, pay per view :)

Best suggestion is to check the fta channel list, let us know exactly what satellites you want, then a system can be recommended based on that.
