What do YOU prefer? 1000.2 or 1000.4

In my opinion 1k.4 is better cuz its a little easier to aim from my experience...yes I'm taking about the dish 1k.2 and 1k.4

For a permanent "set and forget" installation, there's little difference between the two. But for portable use such as RV'ing and tailgating, there's no contest, the 1K4 is the clear winner for ease of aiming. The down side to the 1K4 is the difficulty in adapting it to use the newer hybrid slimline LNBF's. The DPH42 switch negates the need for that though. The 1K4 is easily adapted to use the 1K2 DPP LNBF's.

The Vernier adjustment would be nice for mobile use, but DISH decided that the WA version of the 1000.4 was a bad idea, so the 1000.2 is what we use out West.

I'd switch back to a Dish 500 if the appropriate LNB were available.

The 1K2 is frequently used here in the east as well. I used my 1K4 for both east and west with equal ease though. Switching LNB's only takes a couple of minutes. I suspect the biggest problem Dish had with the 1K4 was the cost. The cost of the thicker metal reflector and the more complex aiming mechanism likely put it at a significant disadvantage in the bean counters eyes. The ease of installation couldn't make up for that. Signal wise, there is very little difference between the two in either application.

I did manage to remove the little middle plastic tab on the Y bracket on the 1k4 to fit a 1k2 lnb. It's my main sat and works great too!

I do have a 500 but converted the dp twin to dpP via a dpp44 switch. The only downside is I donr have a dpH42

If you have a 1K4, I wouldn't change anything except to add a DPH42 if you need it for a Hopper 3.

Mine didn't come with an lnb so I just put a 1k.2 ea head on it..its also hybrid
