I think it's the first of many to come. Combining a DVD recorder with Tivo was a no brainer but it took time to develop the Tivo software. It's currently a bit pricey.. ($900)
 
I'd point out that the TIVO BASIC is a nice option to have.

It is currently on only two products: this one and another dvd player (not recorder). The player is about $400.

TIVO BASIC has NO MONTHLY FEES! It does only have a 2 day guide and other limitations (like no season pass).
