Lets say I have two houses. One in the Northeast and one in the Southeast. They are in two different DMA's, but both DMA's receive their satellite signal from the same satellite (however they are not in the same spot beam). When I go to visit the vacation house I want to take a receiver with me. I already have a slimline set up and all wired in. All that's needed is the receiver. I subscribe to locals at my primary residence, which is in the Northeast.

What happens when I turn on the receiver at the vacation house (assuming that I don't call D* and tell them that the receiver has moved)? Do I get a black screen on the local channels, an error screen, or the locals from the vacation's home DMA?

You get a black screen. You could call them and tell them you are at your vacation home and have your service address changed to it while you are there. You would then get whatever locals are available via D* in that market. When you went back NE, just call and move your service address back. Leave the billing address alone.
