Is it just different model years, or is there really a difference. Will both receive standard ota & dish programing + HD programing?

The 6000u is an older receiver. It has RGB output vs the 811 with has DVI instead.

The 811 also has SD and HD outputs that are active simultaneously.

What are the advantages of DVI? I guess I couldn't take advantage of it since I have an older TV (Sony XBR400) which only has component inputs.

DVI = Digital Video Interface...pure digital transmission on digital fixed pixel displays such as Plasma, DLP, LCD, or ILA...If you used DVI on an analog CRT based display it would go through a Digital to Analog conversion to be displayed on your analog CRT output. In the case of a CRT I recommend just using Component Video as DVI with not create that much of a benefit on an analog CRT.

You can read more about DVI here and here.
