What is True South Satellite in Austin TX

Hi,

Thanks to all of you who helped. I finally got the Fortec Star Classic NA installed and received the CCTV-4.

Now I want to have a motor installed so I can get more satellites.

My question now is what eles do I need except a motor?

Do I need some switch or gear box or something?

What is the most popular motor you guys use?

I read iceberg's common questions and find you have to have a true south satellite recorded in your receiver first, currently I only have my dish pointed to Galaxy 3C which is CCTV-4 position. Is that ok for motor installation?

I have a 37" dish and a LNB I don't know the name and specs which was previously an Analog receiver's.

Nope

Around here the SG-2100 probably wins.

With USALS yes.

If you dig around on Sadoun's site, there is a great explanation on setting up an H-H motor. Read it twice. ;-)

your true south is IA5 (which is right next door to G3) so it won't be that hard. You will need to hone in on IA5 first when you set up your motor so you track the arc correctly

Watch out as the above list is WAY out of date, IA-5 is listed as Telstar 5 (97w)

There are 2 ways to move from satellite to satellite.
Diseqc 1.2-where you move the motor and store the position
USALS-where you get your true south locked in and you put in your latitude/longitude in. When you move satellites, the motor will move it for you. You don't need to manually move the motor.

Diseqc 1.2 once you get your satellites locked in the dish will move. USALS is more "simplified".

Another question, the percent on G3C is 66%, is that means I did not align very well or something else. But the CCTV-4 is very clear. I also can get CCTV-9 and CCTV-Spanish, several other channels without show anything.

CCTV is really the only non scrambled channels there....66% quality is pretty good

Mine bounces around 70%

Oh, ok. Somebody said G10R would be a favorite so I was planning on setting it up for that one. Then I read this post about IA5 being setup first. I'll keep that in mind once I order a motor.

If you are settign up a motorized, you need to aim for your true south satellite first to make it work right. This is the satellite that is the same (or close) to yuor longitude.

Everyone's is different. As an example, Mine & PSB's is IA6 at 93W (we're in Minnesota). Someone in NY their TS is SBS6 at 74W. California is G10 at 123W.

Fixed dishes can be aimed with no issues

Yes, The Outdoor Channel comes to mind. And if you're capable of HD, there's the Outdoor Channel 2 HD.

Radio shack has some coaxial seal that works really good
