Forgive my newbiness, but I need advice. I've been with Dish for a few years now, and have been pretty happy, but I just can't help but look at DirecTV, and think that their "grass looks greener." All those HD channels, and the on demand stuff. It looks so neat! But! I have a 622 that I love, and I have hundreds of hours of programming stored on that I still need to watch/want to keep. I assume there's no way to keep it, or move the shows? Also, does DirecTV have a DVR as good as the 622? Is there anything I might miss if I moved? I've played around with a (probably quite outdated) DirecTV box at my grandmother's house, and have greatly preferred Dish. How much of the GUI etc. depend on the box? I'm so clueless.

There's not much new programming right now. I'm waiting through the summer to see what happens. If I cant get my RSN in HD by sep i'm gone. I'm giving them plenty of time. I really hope they can deliver.
Burning to DVD is probably the best option.

Perhaps, but without knowing what your interests are, it is hard to say.

If you switch, you will lose things that you may currently be taking for granted. If you don't, you may also miss things that you will find that you wouldn't want to miss. The key is to make a table of pluses and minuses and assign an importance to each. How important exclusives are should weigh heavily. The non-exclusive programming will eventually find its way to both services. Note that channel counts aren't everything. DIRECTV has the highest HD channel count, but it is debatable if they actually offer more HD programming or not with many of the channels they offer not bringing much, if any, HD content to the party.
Don't forget to include the monthly costs as a factor in your decision.

How could I do that? Because I've also been having problems with the HDD thing. It almost always freezes up in the middle of watching or restoring, and I have to do a "hard reboot."
