What states ban adult channels from being broadcast?

Wow I would have never thought that would be happening. Why are they blocking the signals?
in certain areas of this supposedly enlightened country there are people who think their local church is best qualified to decide what is appropriate for EVERYONE whether they attend church or not , to view on televsion..
Pretty archaic if you ask me..And I don't even care for porn..

It's not all of North Carolina... Must be by County or Zip Code (just like some of the counties are dry or semi-dry with respect to Alcohol).... In Wake County, we get all the Adult Channels on the Satellite (or at least they are in the guide and show as available).
Check again..Go to the guide. Scroll to the adult channels..select on each one and select "info"..If you see a circle with a slash thru it, the channel is blacked out in your area...the obscenity statute is state wide in NC...

Well thanks to everyone who wrote back :) I got 4 extra points on my Final Exam :) I e-mailed E* and this was there response.

Here is a list of the states:

Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Tennessee, Utah

Also, that DirectTV link was helpful :) I was basically writing about how the government has a lot of control over what we can watch on TV and from where. The teacher had no clue that this stuff went on lol. I wrote about the Distant Networks, Local Markets, and also about the Adult Channels. So much for freedom of choice. Thanks again folks
it comes as no surpise your teacher had no clue..But I will bet a small amount of money your teacher has no reservations about pontificating on political subjects in which he'she has no knowledge..There are teachers who teach what they know..Then there are teachers who indoctrinate their studenbts with their political views.....Teachers who fit onto the latter category should be told to choose another career path..

The reason why some of the channels are banned and not others in these areas is because the channels include an@l sex.
I am pretty sure, by the way did you know that the only legal position in Alabama, is the Missionary, all others are against the law. I wonder if Borders sells the Kama Sutra.

I did and you are correct - although it appeared to be only one channel... Interesting statute since it doesn't seem to apply to the mail since you can get any degree of smut in the mail (and one of the biggest purveyors is based in NC)....

So what there gonna do put a camera in your bed room and make sure your not doing any sex that's not allowed by law, that Alabama law is the stupidest law I ever heard of. Not that I am a freak in the sack but what you do in your bed with the person you love is your business and there shouldn't be laws on how to have sex in your own bedroom.

I once saw an interview on TV with an old lady who worked in rating films. I don't think it was MPAA or anything, it might have been some religious group. She watched and classified porn. Bitter, bitter old biddy. Favorite word seemed to be "filth." And she was very self important and was clear that her mission in life was to do everything possible to stop such films from being made. Her opinion was the only one that counted.

Hmmm, I wonder if you duct taped your hard-core magazine to your TV screen, would that be violating the law? If you lived on the border of NC, could u have ur dish/receiver on the other state, so all the receiving and processing isn't happening in NC, and then run the HDMI to NC side and watch. Assuming watching porn online is legal in NC, this would be the same thing.

About the state (Alabama??) that said only missionary position was legal. What about someone who is immobilized in a wheelchair and the only way was for her to sit on his lap? I think that type of person could challenge the law as inequitable against persons with disabilities and unconstitutional. Is it illegal to perform "self love" too? Assuming that is legal, what about another person putting their hand over your hand? What about......

IDK...it is reasons like this I got castrated last week.
