MHD to Become Palladia, Add More Exclusive Programming
MTV Networks' MHD: Music High-Definition Channel Kicks Into High Gear With New Programming and a New Name - Palladia

High-Definition Channel Boosts Original Programming With Premieres and Theme Weeks Including September's 'Outdoor Music Week' Featuring 10 Superstar Concert Telecasts

NEW YORK, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- MTV Networks' elite high-definition music channel MHD is upping the ante for HD television viewers with a heavy influx of premier, high-definition music programming and a new name: Palladia.

Effective September 1, MHD will become Palladia, reflecting the state-of-the-art channel's rich and varied musical offerings to viewers eager for an immersive, high-definition home entertainment experience. The term Palladia conveys a sense of spectacle -- a grand stage, a vast arena and the excitement of live musical performances.

The Palladia name solidifies the channel's position as the premier music channel in the growing high-def universe. The channel's additional exclusive programming will also help distribution partners meet consumer demand for music in HD whether it's on a high-definition tier or on a VOD platform.

"It's a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans," said Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager of VH1 who also oversees Palladia. "We're also reinforcing that the channel is THE home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can't be seen anywhere else. We believe these changes will help our distributor partners as they continue to sell HD and strive for the best content."

Palladia Boosts HD Music Offerings With More Premier Programming

As part of its evolution, the channel is also moving forward with a roster of additional programming exclusive to Palladia that reflects the expanding brand's wide array of music genres.

The channel will premiere a different concert every Saturday at 9:00 p.m.** In addition, Palladia is curating the finest collection of seminal rock movies ever in one place. These movies will air on Palladia every Thursday at 9:00 p.m.

Palladia will also employ themes around programming to heighten awareness about the channel and its offerings. The Palladia name solidifies the channel's position as the premier music channel in the growing high-def universe.

Holy...you gotta be kidding me.

First of all, Palladia is the plural of Palladium. I had to look this up, even though I know what Palladium is. (It's similar to Platinum, and is used to make Catalytic Converters and Capacitors. ) Did you even know precious metals HAD a plural? What's the plural of Gold? Silver?

The term Palladia does not "convey a sense of spectacle". It conveys either confusion , precious metal investing, or obscure industrial applications. As idiotic as the HD "Metal" packages are, we all know bronze is lower than silver, which is lower than gold.

It has not a damn thing to do with being "the premier music channel."

That said, new programming would be nice, regardless of the name.

and the saddest thing of all, the concerts and videos will all still be *bleeped*

it just kills it.

Do they "bleep" or do they just drop the vocal channel out for a second?

I can deal with the latter, because it doesn't interfere with the music.

MHD has started airing commericals about the change.

The spot I saw during the MTV Live:Foo Fighters this morning showed various crowds with the word palladia in a very light transparent font pan through. then the text "MHD is changing..." then it showed the palladia logo with a butterfly on top of it and their tag line below it: "EPIC. AWESOME. MUSIC." along with the relaunch date Sept 1.

a few minutes into the next segment, the MHD waterstamp on the bottom right was overrun by a bit of a screen bug that took out the MHD Waterstamp with the "Epic Awesome Music" tag line, then it was the gawd-awful looking butterfly (whose wings look like sheetmusic) and the Palladia logo underneath it.

Looks like Palladia will be the butterfly network. Butterfly's are not rock. (heck they are not even hip-hop) well, I guess if it was an iron butterfly it might be rock...
