It varies from channel to channel.

1280x1080 for most HD channels, 1440x1280 for HD locals, and (for now) 1920x1080 for Discovery HD.

What do I want to set my HD settings on, considering my TV does up to 1080i? 1080i, 720p, or auto? I have the HR10, so I don't think I have a native setting. Hoping to get HR20 soon.

I always leave mine on native. But I think its mostly preference. what ever you think is best IMO.

D* mostly broadcasts 1280x1088i and 1280x720p I believe for national HD channels. But I have lost ability to check it since deactivating the HDtivo. Some reports of 1920x1088i on discoveryHD recently and I think the HDLIL is 1440x1088i

Auto is probably the same thing.

Yes, auto is simply a pass-through choice for the HR10-250...identical in concept to the Native format setting in HR20.
