As part of a service call, the technician said he had to replace a "blue" barrel connector because it wasn't the correct type for the HD signal. He failed to see, and replace, a second barrel connector on the same cable run. When I checked the newly installed barrel connector, it was "blue" too. What are the different types (colors) of barrel connectors, and what (color) should be used to connect cables carrying a HD signal?

It is not really a color issue. It is if the part is rated 2GHZ. Dish cabling (and connectors) must be able to pass 2GHZ. Essentially the first GHZ is unused by Dish. You can use it to pass in cable or antenna feeds (this is what diplexors are for). The upper GHZ is used by Dish. If the cable and connections do not pass the whole 2 GHZ the Dish part gets cut off.
