I currently have a STABS hh90 motor, and I'm happy with it. I'm toying with the idea of a second motorized system, and wouldn't mind some feedback. I'm thinking of the STABS120 motor, driving a 90 cm dish. My thought is the big motor is unlikely to be challenged and might be better over time, than something lighter and cheaper. IS there a better option ?

:-)

the SG2100 will work with a 90cm dish no issues (unless you're like me and have roof issues..a 90cm dish is too big to fit on the roof motorized) :D

Thanks Pete,
That's just a popularity contest ! I also see more problems with the SG2100's on this forum and others( maybe because there are so many out there ! ) . What if I said that the 90cm dish was a heavy Paraclipse or a Patriot ? The weight of those babies might be an issue. In the back of my mind, I'd like to sneak in a 1m dish, but doubt that I could get permission from the female CEO of the house.

:-)

What you need to watch out for is there are a couple of "Brands" of SG2100

Not much trouble with the MOTECK SG2100 I have installed MANY with NO problems what so ever! NONE.

The motor is POPULAR for a reason not just coz it looks nice :)

Roof issues- now that's a problem , Ice. The system will have to be roof mounted. We have a lucious southern landscape of oaks, maples and wild cherries. Perhaps a gable mount? Otherwise, we're talking another 80cm dish and with that certainly the SG-2100 would not be challenged.

:-(

As long as its installed on a down sloping roof there should be no issues! Iceberg's is installed on an up sloping roof so there is clearance issues! A longer mast can solve that!

yep. Thats my issue. I have to have the dishes on the back side of the house due to the HOA (and easy accessible from the back). With a 38 elevation for TS here in MN I have some issues. If I had it on the downward slope, there would be no issues :)

But with a 76cm I can see from almost 30-148 with no issues :)

As for the motor, I have both a genuine SG2100 and a knockoff and the knockoff did have issues with a heavier dish.

Thanks, Pete & Ice,
My roof mount is on the downsloping roof, and I'm happy with everything except a few trees. Locating another motorized dish on my far west end would give me a different angle on those trees , and more flexibility. Realistically, I'll be lucky to get away with a 90cm , so I'll settle for that ! I got a new BUZZ receiver last night ( from one of the gold sponsors , of course) and spent 2 hours cussing and being pleased. It has the best tuner that I've seen in my short experience. 11720V on G10R came in strong, and barely pixelated during a rain squall, while my primary stb blacked out for the duration. Both from the same Invacom lnb. I've got a lot of experimenting to do, a new toy and all. The menus, etc are very different , but the blind scan IS fast .

:-)

on the Buzz sometimes the blind scan wasn't accurate on fast. It skipped some TP's. The detail works good but its not as fast :)

I have meant to ask this in the past. How can we tell the genuine from the knockoff on the SG2100 ?
Also Brent if "money no object", I will sell you my SG2100 for $500.00 :)

I read that in your review. Frankly, I've been thrilled with the blind scan of my Classic NA, and the BUZZ is much faster . I'm going to be comparing them side by side on the quad lnb, to see whether there is an accuracy difference. On the Fortec, I always use the 4 MHZ SLOW option anyway, I'd hate to spend all that time scanning, and then miss something !

Wait'll you see the picture on the $500 bill I send you ! I'm also an amateur beta tester for Adobe systems software .

;)

Since you said money no object, go 36V either with one of the motors, or with a polar mount and actuator. No comparison, they are so much faster and very well built compared to those rinky dink DiSEqC motors.

Moteck and Digipower are made by the same company. Pete, see PM

True but its not called a Moteck, just trying to differentiate between both motors!

And I have extensive experience with the Motecks and none with the other motors. Just trying to make that clear.

And will contine calling them by their correct name :D

I only have one small (1 meter or less) dish that motorised and I have it on a SG2100. The rest of my dishes are either fixed or much larger and use 36v motors. Anyway, my SG2100 has done well and I'm pleased with it. However, having said that, I've always heard (from relaible sources) that the stab motors were the best of these small type motors and that they were built to higher quality and relaibility standards. Of course, I can't verify that as I don't own one but seeing as how they are made in Italy and the SG2100s are made somewhere else (that probably means taiwan) I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were in fact true. 90% of the time "made in taiwan" is just a nice way of saying "this is a piece of crap". Of course the problem is it's getting hard to find anything that isn't made in taiwan.

NOT in the case of the Moteck SG2100 :D

As the above vote proved, one word.

BACKLASH!

The Moteck SG2100 has NONE. I find that to be VERY important with a motorized satellite dish :D
