What is the deal here? This pisses me off because this is a channel i PAY to watch, it is not just like standard cable, i pay to see this in HD, and it is not in HD.

Directv will get a call and a complaint for this stunt.

ESPN's two trucks are being used for football :D

No more HD baseball until the playoffs, sorry

So that means really no more HD baseball until next year on ESPN?

Isn't FOX doing MLB Playoff and WS games like every other year?

Exactly what game is ESPN using those trucks for tonight................Oh, the USC game that was shown YESTERDAY?

ESPN can drive that truck down to Atlanta easily in a day and a half.

We are all getting burned by ESPN. Besides that, when they do an HD game they are so poor that they can't buy the right equipment to make the whole thing HD. They can build all those buildings and put the right equipment in it but can't buy a truck with the equipment they need.

I am really not impressed with ESPN HD at all. When stuff is in HD it is OK, PQ is decent.

95% of the content is not in HD. If I see one more damn Little League World Series game or "World Poker Championship" game on ESPN HD that is not in HD i am going to scream. Sportscenter HD is almost completly stupid, I could care less about seeing Stuart "Annoying Lazy Eyed Freak" Scott in HD.

ESPN needs to get with the parade here and invest some cash in more trucks. It is totally unacceptable to be charging people for a channel that advertises HD but most of the content is not in HD. Remember when ESPN wanted to start charging more for regualr ESPN networks? Are they kidding?

Get it together ESPN, I am not interested in having a HD truck sit around the day after a game and have to watch SNBB in SD.

You can't really fault Directv for this.

Another thing to remember is everything ESPN-HD does in HD is 720p, not 1080i like most everyone's TVs do.

According to ESPN'S website, they are aiming for alot more hours of HD coverage. How are they going to do all those without getting more trucks?

I also hate the fact that ESPN HD is really anything but that...with the few games they put in HD. However, I have a question, on the HTL-HD, whenever something is in HD format, the "HD" icon is lighted. I noticed that for almost everything on ESPN HD, most programs are never highlighted in HD, does that mean they are standard? They look better than what other standard channels look like. So I am just curious. Also, I noticed for a channel like HDNet that the HD icon doesn't always light up for a program airing on HDNet. I find it hard to believe that HDNet doesn't air every single thing they show in HD. Is that just a minor quirk on the HLT-HD or do somethings not air on HD on HDNet? I'm puzzled.

The more hours of coverage are mainly referring to studio shows, although, more HD trucks may be on the way.

On September 12th the following shows will all be in HD, and with the heavy HD football season, a lot more highlights will be in HD.

SportsCenter
NFL Countdown
NFL Primetime
Monday Night Countdown

Next Spring, Baseball Tonight will also go in HD.

The HD Icons come from a program guide, which often is wrong and lacking information.

The reason SD content looks better on ESPN-HD is because it is upconverted to 720p and is not compressed heavily by the providers like regular ESPN is.

All the content on HDNet is in 1080i and DD5.1

I am trying to figure this complaint out. Exactly why is DirecTV to blame for ESPN's failure to do a game in HD?
Perhaps a call to Bristol CT might be more appropriate?

correct me if I am wrong but Cbs also does 720p, and if I read all the right things 720p is a better picture for sports, its a lot more stabler picture, and 1080i is not, you will see a lot of break ups and general pixalation, plus with 720p its not that big of a diff. I could be wrong though but I thought 720p was the standard for sports.

ABC and FOX do 720p the others do 1080i

720p does provide a smoother picture for sports, without the chances for pixelation, but you do loose the sharpness of 1080i which can have pixelation in sports (like I've seen a lot on CBS and the NBC Olympics)

It's all preference whether people like a smoother broadcast or a sharp broadcast with some slight pixelation.

I have a 720p DLP so I don't mind the 720 games.

I pay directv, who goes on to pay ESPN to carry this channel. Directv is the "broker" in the equation. If you would like to give me the phone number for ESPN HDs engineer / producer I would love to give them a call.

I do not carry any weight complaining to ESPN, i do not pay them directly. I pay DirecTV. If ESPN was a direct vendor of mine (if i paid ESPN directly for the channel) than I would call ESPN to complain, but i do not, i pay Directv, who sends a large check to ESPN in order to carry ESPN HD.

On top of that, do i have any choice in getting ESPN HD? It is not an a-la carte deal, If I pay for the salad bar, i get the whole thing, i still pay for the damn carrots if i do not want them.

Have you figured it out yet?

"The HD Icons come from a program guide, which often is wrong and lacking information."

I don't think that is correct, because I get the HD icon from my OTA HD channels, that don't have any info in the program guide. I think the HD Icon is accurate.

Calling DirectTV to complain about ESPNHD is just ludicrous, what other users have posted is correct. Write a letter or an e-mail to ESPN is the only way to complain about their lackluster programming.

For the record 720p is still HD, and ESPN, ABC, FOX do/will air all their stuff in 720p. As stated, 720p is a bit better for fast motion stuff. The person who said CBS does 720p is incorrect they air everything in 1080i inluding their sports.

That said, I too have been dissappointed with ESPNHD right now, they spent lots of money to make the Sportscenter studios ultra high-tech BUT you rarely get to see it because 90% of their clips are in SD (even for games done in HD). They have dropped all baseball coverage in HD until next year. In favor of getting ready to cover NFL games in HD as well as convert some of their shows to HD.

There are a couple of things worth noting, Fox is on track to hit their 9/12 commitment to "true HD" at 720p. On 8/30 most stations will "flip the switch" and their shows like Arrested Development, Casino, etc. should start comming in on HD. Fox Sports REgional (again not sure exactly which ones) are airing games in HD. I can only speak for Florida, but Voom has recently activated Fox Sports Florida, and an HD channel that is only active during HD games. I have seen like 5 Marlins Games in HD, and 1 Tampa games was done in HD (although I missed it). I think Voom may be headed to activate some regionals in the Ohio area, not sure which Fox Regionals have HD right now. If FOX keeps pushing it though, baseball through your FSN in HD will be the way to go while ESPN focuses it's HD resources on college and pro football.

We pay Directv for ESPN HD service. Directv is one of the largest carriers of ESPN HD currently. If Directv starts getting heat from subscribers, they can use their clout to preassure ESPN. Me complaining alone to ESPN is like sending a letter straight to the president of the US. This is why we have a heierarchy in everything in the world, for better communication. Going right to the top will accomplish nothing but fill up the ESPN mail rooms trash can with another letter. Writting to ESPN about a service i pay Directv is like writting the pope because i have a problem with my local priest. Directv is my vendor, ESPN is not.

I am not sure how this is "ludicris", it would be simply stupid to write a letter to ESPN.

ESPN does not do the playoffs and W/S, fox does, and has for a while now. Is this correct? Some here say that future games in the playoffs will be in HD and some don't.
