Widescreen setting on the Pansat 2500a

If I use a widescreen with my Pansat, what is the advantage of putting the Pansat at the widescreen setting in the User settings menu page?

From what I can tell the Widescreen is to format a 4:3 screen to widescreen and not vice versa?

Anyone else know anymore?

unless the original program is in widescreen, this feature is useless as a comb is to me

So I should just leave it right? Unless there are any FTA programs blasting out in HDTV.

What about surround sound? I don't seem to get any surround sound on my Pansat? Just dvd's...

Any advice?

I know if the broadcaster has the audio in AC-3, you should be able to get surround sound.
