Will External Hard Drive (EHD) still work if I come back to DISH?

If I cancel my account, wait the 90 days, and then come back as a new customer to get the new customer deals, will the old recordings still be accessible off of the EHD?

Nope; the hard drive authorization is per account, so new account would not be able to access the old drive's recordings.

He can't have his cake and eat it too. If he wants to keep his recordings, he has to keep the account open. As I'm sure you know.

No. It's account specific. If you leave Dish any ehd recordings are toast.

There is an encryption key for your account. If you close your account, the key is discarded by Dish. When you open a new account you get a new key.

Live recording to DVD or other device is about the only other option. Or a marathon TV watching.
