What do your eyes tell you about the 8 versus the Ultra? I haven't considered an Apple Watch very seriously because of tiny displays.
And this is NOT a snarky question: Why do you "need" a new iPhone? I ask because my XS Max is working ok, save for possibly needing a new battery later this year or so. Perhaps I should be considering something else. BTW, I don't use the capabilities of the current camera, so those improvements are of no interest.
Need vs want...
Good questions!
8 vs Ultra. I really just wanted to see if I could wear the Ultra since it is considerably larger.
There were a couple observations that gave it a + over the top standard SS 8- GPS for hiking navigation, the battery is rated at twice the number of hours, the screen resolution appeared sharper and had a really nice response on the small video clips. BUT I really want a built in camera so I will probably wait.
Upgrade from iphone 11Max Pro to the 14 Max Pro:
Current 11 is suffering battery life less than what I am used to. I am doing more now with monitoring 2 Teslas and 4 solar battery charging / discharging so where my iphone used to last 3 days I now have to charge it up daily. The camera is adequate for my non-pro needs but the newer camera in the 14 Pro Max has more zoom Image stabilization, and higher quality after compression. It also offers 5G and that is the way of the future. But the big PLUS in the 14 is the screen brightness in bright sunlight. To read my 11 I have to find shade. The 14 is just really bright in the sun and no problem reading the screen. While I will wait on the watch for another year unless the new Ultra is a secret surprise like a built in camera or some health monitor, it's time now for a new iphone.
BTW- the new iphone 14 does not use hardware simm, only e simm. So that will be an issue for some travelers I think. I don't swap around with different simm cards so not really concerned about that.
Frankly, I don't need either and depending on other priorities I may push it off for another year and get both in 2024.
