I was wondering if anyone thought this was a good or bad idea....

I have a ribbon cable going from my dish to my house and it has a few places that it's worn through to the shielding or inner insulation (I am the second owner) and I'd like to preserve it for a bit longer before I replace it. I was thinking about using some silicone sealant on the bare spots. Is there a better option?

Thanks,

ditto on the coax seal. I do like liquid electrical tape on connections and then cover with the coax seal.
My parents tv tower is 30+ years old , the original installer used electrical tape to tape the coax to the tower coming down. That electrical tape is still there and holding I'm Shocked.
