The reading was taken March 8, 2010 3:45pm est in Montreal, Canada.
Dish 36" pointing at AMC 4 101w with 97w LNB clampted on to it.
Receiver used: Fortec Star Liftime Classic NA. Signal locks at 26% with stable viewing above 26%.
Today the SQ of the new transponder 11842H has greatly improved with excellent signal quality. Until now it was off and on, but mostly unwatchable.

I just checked and 11842H is coming in fine without adjusting with 70% quality for me, but there seems to be only 3 active channels right now: 3ABN Latino (VPID: 2003), 3ABN English (2002) and LLBN (2001), the remaining channels (2004-2009) have black screens no video, no audio

John
Rescan the transponder....they moved channels around. I had the same issue this morning

40 miles NW of Omaha. Omaha?
We have just recorded a significant drop in SQ (20 points) on 11842. Can anyone else confirm?

The Uplinker just brought 11842 up 2dB. Back up?

Intelsat and RRSat will continue to work on optimizing the transponder and your continued reports and observations of signal discrepancies are extremely helpful!

We thank you for all your reports and encourage you to continue submitting your observations for a few more days until we have success!

Have a great week!

Brian,

It is now 2 am Central Time for Omaha Nebraska. I checked my signals from TP 11842 once again after reading your posts quoted above. At this time, I confirm a significant drop in quality from my initial findings a few days ago.

At my first check on the 3rd, 4th or 5th of March, I detected a 76% signal quality reading with my AZBox. I rechecked it on March 6th with my SuperBuddy meter for comparison (refer to post #45) and although it was still strong, it was rather difficult to judge as the signal quality was quite jumpy for me. I wasn't sure why.

I checked again this morning (March 9th at roughly 2 am Omaha time) and I am detecting 58% to 64% quality. We do have some cloud cover and occasional light rain here, but the drop in quality from my original 76% to this level is more significant than what I can blame on the current weather issue here.

It appears to now be stabilizing and rising a small bit since I started writing this reply. It is more often 63-65% reading on Q now. I imagine much of this is weather related. It must be clearing slightly.

Anyhow, I just thought I would keep you informed of what I am detecting.

Thank you for the signal reports!

Welcome to Satellite 101:
The uplink dish for the 11842 transponder is a 9 meter (27' approx.) dish and has an very good signal gain, but also an extremely narrow beam width. The transponder is now on Automatic Level Control, which will keep the EIRP constant at a predetermined level as the satellite moves around in the assigned orbital slot (the box). Satellites normally follow a figure 8 pattern within the assigned box. When the satellite is centered in the box, it is receiving the the maximum signal from the uplink. When the satellite moves outside of the center of the box, it is no longer receiving the maximum signal from the uplink and the auto gain must compensate to maintain the signal reaching the earth at a constant level.

Testing Phase 2:

Would anyone be able to post results of this test:

Place the receiver on Transponder Frequency 11966 and peak for maximum Signal Quality. Now place the receiver on TP Freq. 11842.

Is the Signal Quality also peaked for TP Freq. 11842 or does the dish need to be bumped slightly East or West to maximize the Signal Quality reading?

Satellite 101,

As you requested,

Testing with:
90cm motorized Ku offset dish
Coolsat 6100 Private receiver
So Cal 93555 area code

Peaked on 11966 I have 85% Q while 11842 shows 82% to 83%
then peaked on 11842 I get a 2% increase of Q signal by nudging slighlty WEST, just a tad mind you.

12177 V 23000 - SQ: 80

I also ran the test that you mentioned above and peaked on 11966 with 71% while 11842 shows 77%

I then peaked on 11842 with 77% and tried nudging both east and then west. I was not able to get a higher reading on 11966 and had 71% as the highest level.

Hope this helps.

I had this satellite in january, unfortunatelly I've moved so I don't have the readings anymore but I was able to watch that satellite using an 1.2M dish in Guatemala City.

I got good signal and good quality /signal (between 50 - 85)

Geosatpro 90cm, GSL1u, Coolsat 6000

Peaked on 11966 H for 69%, got 70% for 11842 H

fine bumped motor 2 west to get 71-72% on 11842 H

When I peak on 11966 the Coolsat 5000 shows
11966-72/73
11842-72 steady

Wehn I bump west to peak on 11842 I get
11966-63 and heavy pixelking
11842-76/77

I am wondering if using the Glorystar dual LNB's if the signal quality would be slightly lower then using a single LNB aimed directly at G19?

With the dish peaked on 11842 I get 60% and 40% on 11966

The rest of the transponders are 70%

I have the GEOSAT Pro receiver and I am located in South Central Texas.
