Sometime between last Wednesday and yesterday, the YouTube app on my Hopper2 (software version H606, but it's dated before this problem started) has stopped working properly. Not only does streaming keep glitching, but it never renders anything close to a full-resolution picture -- not even close to a bad SD picture, in fact. It looks exactly like it's not getting enough data, but Youtube works on every other device in the house, and VOD works on the Hopper, so the problem must be with the software. Is anyone else seeing this? (I haven't tried resetting the Hopper, but it presumably reset itself at 1AM last night and it's still not working.)

So this has turned into even more of a head-scratcher!

On a whim, I tried signing out of the account. When not signed in, videos play beautifully. When I signed back in, it started out playing at full resolution, but after a few seconds dropped back to unwatchable. I belatedly decided to look at the setting for video quality, and it said "Auto (480p)". Why Auto should've gone to SD rather than HD like it always does, I have no idea. Also, this was NOT viewable 480 by any stretch of the imagination! When I changed it to 1080, things got even weirder. It started producing 1080 video, but with frequent pauses as if it was STILL getting a low data rate! Lastly, I've also noticed that navigating the app is much snappier when not signed in vs. when signed in, even if NOT playing any video.

So, for some reason the account acts as if it's being throttled. It does NOT do this on any other device.

Do we have any Dish support people here? This is NOT something I'd like to try to explain to whatever script-reader answers the phones...

Sounds like account throttling
