I can see them losing money on the PS3's. I mean come on it comes with a few of extras you have to ADD to a 360.

I still love how everyone likes to compare a 360 stock to a ps3 stock on price. Apples to oranges.

well if its putting HD-DVD out of the business and having only 1 company out (BD) then its totally worth their losses.

I've got xbox and ps2 and the one thing that always bothered me about the xbox was that I had to go out and buy a remote and infrared module to play a dvd while a ps2 allows me to play a dvd using the controller. To have the 360 ( core or premium ) play a dvd you have to buy a seperate drive wich pushes the price up by $200 and effectively puts it as high if not higher than a ps3.

I like both platforms for the games and both are just as reliable and both take abuse well though the ps2 has taken several 5 foot falls and still works with only a cosmetic issue.

I've played both ps3 and 360 and like what I see, reliability seems to be about the same wich is key for me but my concerns are having to get a seperate drive to play dvd's and the heat issue that I've seen brought up ( aftermarket fan system came out real quick ) on the 360 and of all the units I've seen at local stores the ps3 is the only one I've seen lock up as compared to the original xbox wich was the one that would be locked up.

Does it really matter if the PS3 has lost money in the first year?
PS2 lost money it's first year or so.
The Xbox NEVER made a profit.
Has the 360 turned a profit yet?

Sony lost 844 mil on the pS3 last quarter and they have just dropped prices 100 bucks on all the models. There is no way they are going to do anything but lose even more money this quarter. And the more PS3's they sell the more money they will lose. Thats one reason I bought one :D

:haha:haha:haha
Vurbano , you crack me up!! Sony has remove three chips from the motherboard (hence the no PS2 compatiblity) and the price of the laser has dropped 90% , the hard drive 50% (and they still used a 40GB) and they are using a new process for the 40gb motherboard which is supposed to save them 50% on the production costs. No, I think the 40GB is pretty close to cost at $399.

But Sony is starting to make some smart moves software wise and I am sure it helps to have some good games finally come out for the PS3 besides RFOM and Motorstorm. Like I said, they need one hellofa XMAS to even get close to breaking even.

The 360 just went $2 billion in the hole for the extended warranty that M$ had to do because of the design defect that is causing the overheating. I think that Halo3 brought them some big bucks but not $2 billion?

Sony will be losing that every quarter on the PS3 if they keep going. Im sure 1 billion next quarter. But what does the 360 have to do with the PS3 that is a BD player. Its apples and oranges.

Diogen, what are you going to do since AVS has locked their BD/HD-DVD up? I have posted links on the reduction in manufacturing costs on the PS3 before. I am not going to keep posting the same links over and over just so you can sleep at night. Try doing a search and find the links yourself - I am tired of doing it for you.

Hmmm... Poke fun at your posts. Do you have something agains it?

That could be but I doubt it.
You could not have offered proof that the blue laser dropped in price 10 times and 40GB hard drives in half. This is complete garbage.
Did Blu Shill Bill say that? Then it must be true... :)
I am tired of doing it for you.
Ever get tired of posting crap?

So how many people buyng the 40GB PS3 know it's not backwards compatible? A real question, not a dis. Laser price dropped 90%? Really? So that means Toshiba's price points aren't out of line. Why are BD players MSRP still $499 and up? As for the new cell processor... the PS3 40 still uses the 90nm processor. However, it has been redesigned slightly for lower power consumption.

Sony says the 40GB PS3 is still using 90nm chips - Engadget

Looks like Sony lied about the new chip design.
