NCAA Football 2007-08

So guys, does Kansas have a chance tonight, or will we see another blowout ?
I think it will be close. Va Tech has had close games against quality opponents. I think it game will be settled by a field goal or less. I give it a toss up as to which one wins.

You obviously expect Va Tech to win, you have them on your top teams after the bowls are over, or did I read the wrong list ?

Go ahead, someone tell me we DON'T need a playoff system. If there ever was a reason to have one , this season is it. Who wouldn't like to see Georgia - USC duke it out or (place your matchup here). This would have been as exciting as anything in sports today. Certainly more exciting then the upcoming NFL snooz-a-thon thats coming to a television near you, starting this weekend.

My thoughts and questions so far this bowl season:

1. How in the name of Spruce Knob did West Virginia lose to Pitt?

2. Is Oklahoma the most disappointing post-regular season team of the last 5 years? (4 BCS games, 4 losses, 2 blow-outs, a loss to a WAC team, etc.)

3. After Hawaii's embarrassing loss, was Boise State a one hit non-BCS conference wonder last year?

4. A healthy Michigan can play with any team in the country.

5. Rich Rodriguez's old team and new team had impressive performances, and he didn't call a single play in either game.

6. The Rose Bowl needs to get over itself. Most of America would rather have seen a USC-Georgia barn burner, than a 'classic' Pac-10, Big Ten snooze-fest.

7. Speaking of BCS games, the combined score of the first three BCS games was 138-55. Aren't these supposed to be the best teams in America?

8. Missouri got hosed.

9. The Big Ten could go 4-4 in bowls and still be considered the best conference this year by the media if Ohio State beats LSU and the league goes 2-1 against the SEC.

10. Why did the BCS add an extra game to be played a week after New Years with no play-in?

And I'll add one more. The Heisman in 2009 will come down to Noel Devine and Knowshon Moreno.

1. The WV loss to PITT was both a FLUKE(..."on any given day....") and it's a long standing rivalry, with those games...anything can happen(ask Oklahoma about losing to Colorado).

2. No big surprise in the Oklahoma situation....atleast not for me. Almost every other year(and yes, I could be exaggerating), Oklahoma has "the best team we have seen in at least 2 decades"....then they get their asses handed to them in either their Big 12 Championship game or the BCS game they go to. It has litterally happened every year for the last 6 or 7 years.

3. YES...and surprise, surprise....who was the joke on with the Boise State...duh Oklahoma....proving either MORE my point #3.

4. I agree.

5. AND including the #4 answer, Michigan will be even better! MY preseason pick to be next year's National Champion.

6. The Rose Bowl IS the Notre Dame of bowls, they think they can pass the mustered on the name alone.

7. ALOT of overrated teams in the BCS top 10.

8. Hosed how? IF it was in the game, I must admit, I didn't see the game.

9. And outside of Ohio State and Michigan, the rest of the conference was way overrrated.

10. Your guess is as good as mine.

They didn't make it into a BCS game. This is how they were hosed.

Then I agree with you somewhat. But at the time, when the invitations were handed out, and after last year's showing by Boise State....you would have thought an undefeated Hawaii DID deserve a trip to a BCS bowl. I mean WHO were gonna leave out....?

THAT is the Rose Bowl's fault...not the BCS. The same could have been said for the overrated Oklahoma....but did you expect Oklahoma or Illinois to lay eggs?

Nope.

Oklahoma was 10 in the BCS 2 weeks left in the BSC schedule, should have expected it, like Salsa has been saying Oklahoma does it EVERY year.

Illinois was 13th at the end, still didn't deserve to go.
Michigan was not ranked very high at the end either, not in the top 25 in the BSC at the end.
I guess BSC doesn't have it all right.

It's that Big 12 schedule that does it. Easy to win in the conference, but once they get to the bowl game, they get slammed by the competition.

Oklahoma IS the Big-12 champion. They won the conference championship. They HAD to go to the Fiesta Bowl. Period.

Seems like the Fiesta Bowl is a jinx for us. Maybe we need to lose the Big-12 championship and go somewhere else to recover, like the Holiday Bowl a couple of years ago when they destroyed Oregon.

The fact is, this year's OU team hasn't played well away from Oklahoma and Texas. I can't explain it. Maybe next year the freshman QB will be able to handle it better, maybe the line will protect better, maybe DeMarco Murray won't be injured, maybe ...

Uh huh! Kansas got slammed by VT - NO. Missouri got slammed by Arkansas - NO. Texas got slammed by Arizona State - NO. Texas Tech got slammed by Virginia - NO. Oklahoma State got slammed by Indiana - NO.

Big-12 is 5-2 in bowl games this year.

OU had a bad game. Period.

So it was yourvote that got us that #5 preseason ranking last year. Salsa, I wish I could be as optimistic about next season, but here lies the rub. MICHIGAN is losing as many as 6 of their top offensive players. Jake Long, Chad Henne, and Mike Hart are all seniors, as well as one other offensive lineman (I think). "Super" Mario Manningham, and the other standout WR Arrington (both jrs.) have applied for draft evaluations from the NFL, and are most likely going to apply for the draft. Can't blame them, although I thought Arrington would have came back until the Florida game. (He made 2 of the most ridiculous catches I ever saw). We're also losing are 2 best linebackers, Crabble and Graham. Add in the fact that our freshman QB Mallet is likely to transfer, and a whole new offensive system, I would think that an 8 - 4 season is on the horizon. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though. As for next seasons preseason #1, I would be looking at Georgia, USC, and whoever wins the BCS championship Monday.

It would have to be Kansas since no more than two teams from any conference can play in BCS games. Illinois may have not deserved to be in a BCS game with a #13 ranking, but Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri couldn't have all been in the BCS. Plus Missouri beat Kansas head to head. Hawaii also, by rule, had to be in a BCS bowl. Any non-BCS conference team ranked #12 or higher in the BCS gets an automatic invitation.

This is why they suck
