FIRST LOOK - Hopper OTA Module

I think so, which doesn't work too well in any location where I want to put my Hoppers.

Perhaps we could use a couple of isolators on a single cable to dump the MOCA signal into a terminator. (Obviously connectivity would be by LAN.) Then we could diplex the OTA antenna signal as normal. Theoretically.

This is pretty much the setup I am using. I just have the OTA cable hooked to my tv until I get my USB tuner and software update.

But everyone can watch the same OTA channel at the same time by pressing the remote red button and joining the Hopper or Joey that is using the OTA tuner.

correct thanks for the clarification... As far as diplexing to the joeys I would think this is not possible due to you should not install any non-hopper joey components after the node. You can use two or three way splitters but diplexers interfere with the moca signal carried to the clians but hey I could be wrong.

That's my understanding. Make sure the Joey is linked to that Hopper and you can mirror any tuner.

Can the Joey mirror anything the Hopper is doing? Lets say someone is watching a recording at the Hopper, can someone at the Joey TV press a button and join in and watch exactly what the Hopper is watching (mirror)?

Mirroring only works with tuners, you can watch anything another Hopper or Joey is watching live. You can watch the same recording but will not be in sync with the other Hopper or Joey.

Yes one of the neat things with the Joey is that you do pull up the OTA channels from the Hopper it's connected to

Wow, it would be nice if you could do the same thing with a recording. Thanks rglore.

Just to add, mirroring only currently works with Joeys and Hoppers linked to each other, if you have a two Hopper system, it's a little more complicated.

I really want to switch to the Hopper/Joey but the things it lacks would be a real big headache for me. At least the OTA issue is solved. We really use mirroring with our 722s all the time. It would be nice if the Hopper had a home distribution port or at least have all Hopper/Joeys to be able to mirror each other. I guess I could put external modulators on the Hoppers for all the other TVs in our home.

I have a freq agile modulator on one of my Hoppers to mirror every room and bought four more remotes. Works just as well as my older 622's home distribution output.

PR users that will like to order the USB OTA module online, use the chat option instead to avoid the additional $20.00 shipping charges. one USB OTA module per hopper in the account for $30.00 and no additional shipping charges

How many TVs are you talking about that you would want that on?

Ten TVs. Presently two 722Ks and one 722 are connected (all modulated) to my home distribution splitter. Any TV including the primary TVs can watch any DVR they wish. There is another 722 in the kids room that is not connected (modulated) to the home splitter. However, I do have it diplexed so it can tune in to the two 722ks and the other 722 if required. I am thinking of getting three Hoppers and six Joeys if Dish allows that and attach external modulators to them for the remaining TVs.

I just ordered my Hopper and Joey upgrade, which will be delivered the day after Thanksgiving. I've been trying to order the USB OTA so that I'll have it when my Hopper shows up. The challenge is that since I don't have a Hopper yet, the USB OTA tuner doesn't show up as an available "option" to purchase (DISH is trying to be "smart" and keep me from ordering something that isn't compatible with my current DVR). I tried calling twice into Dish to see if they could just over ride that, and allow me to order it now. One claimed it's not order-able yet (which is obviously not true). The second person said that even though people can place an order, there is no real ship dates yet.. Which also sounds incorrect if people above are seeing theirs shipping.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get one of these ordered now?? Maybe one of the Dish guys who watch these threads know how to get around this? Thx!

Actually, no. I ordered my 1H/2J upgrade last night thru DIRT, and she said that they would not be able to add the OTA module until the Hopper Upgrade was complete and activated.
