2014 AL Central

I rarely post in the AL Central because I follow the Mets but can somebody tell me why the hell the Mets picked up Valverde from the Tigers? This melted down last year or the before and he almost lost the game for the Mets last night.

I can only imagine three reasons:

1. Your GM is a brave man who is hoping for a miracle comeback-player-of-the-year season
2. There is a lack of quality closers throughout the league (just look at the Tigers so far)
3. Your GM is a complete idiot, dolt, rube and moron

All I can say is, "Better you that us!" Good Luck!

Tough loss last night...wish I could watch the game, but no way am I staying up that late...and I don't order MLB TV until the 2nd half of the season.

I watched the first 5 innings before calling it a night. This whole week is full of 10:00pm games. It was a tough loss but worse than that is the collision that Torii Hunter had with the right field wall. It looked like his knee took a hell of a beating. Torii says he is ok and he could have played tonight but they are keeping him out of the lineup. I hope it really is as minor as he says it is.

Dirks is out on IR too...not a great player, but he seems to play well-enough when filling-in.

I heard Asmus today say that he's holding Torii out tonight unless he's stunningly healthy, which he won't be, anyways, Asbus wants to hold him out and they have Thursday off, so that will give him an extra day to rest ... he'll be back in there Friday unless he has other issues as well.

Technically, you didn't pick him up from the Tigers, Tigers got nothing as Valverde was released by the Tigers last year.

So .... You picked him up all on your own ... ;)

Victor is having a tough game behind the plate tonight. It's only the second inning and he already has a throwing error and a passed ball. He did throw out a runner trying to steal second though. He just doesn't look at that comfortable catching anymore. Luckily that will only happen when we play in NL parks.

Wow! Josh Beckett just pulled of a suicide squeeze with a full count. You don't see that often, especially from a pitcher.

That will happen when you only catch once a month.

Speaking of looking bad .... Sanchez has thrown 60 pitches and were still in the 2nd inning, gonna be a long night.

It was a beautiful play at that, I'll give him credit and Mattingly for making the call.

So, do the Dodgers come to Comerica this year as the return side of this interleague junk ?

By the end of the week, the Tigers will have played as many interleague games as they have in thier league ... and they are only 2 weeks into the season ...

Can we PLEASE do away with the interleague junk ....

Maybe the next Commish will fix that problem, Bud sure isn't going to.

Now that the Astros have been moved to the AL and there are 15 teams in each league they kind of have to have interleague play all the time now. It's either that or 1 team from each league needs to have a bye series at all times. The only way I can think of to fix it would be to move another NL team over to the AL or move an AL team over to the NL so they can have an even number of teams in each
league.

Castellanos just got his first career big league HR and it happened to come with 2 men on base and 2 outs. Hopefully there are many more to come.

Easy, move it back to the way it was.
Selig only did this because he wants to continue to ruin baseball before he leaves.

I flipped over to the news for a few minutes and missed Nick big blast ...

I heard it went to dead center field, at night in LA where the ball doesn't carry very well.

I'll have to catch the highlights.

I just looked at the box score from last night's game. While it's nice to see V-Mart hit a HR to win the game for the Tigers in the 10th, I noticed the bullpen (our closer Joe Nathan) gave up a 3-run lead in the bottom of the 9th. I know it's early, but we need to get our bullpen situation squared-away this season.

Geez, thats wonderful.

Good point...although we did release him the prior year and wound up bringing him back last year.

I dont mind interleague although some of the matchups that could be created have a lot to be desired. Ex. Indians/Dodgers, Dodgers/White Sox. Does that excite anybody?
