DISH to partner with Aereo?

Aereo Says Networks Are Bluffing About Moving to Cable

The CEO of TV-streaming service Aereo told Bloomberg that threats from networks including CBS and Fox to switch to cable are merely a bluff.

Lower advertising revenue and pressure from lawmakers would make it extremely difficult for the networks to move forward on the threat, Aereo CEO Chet Kanojia said.

“The reality is they want to get paid twice, and Aereo is just an excuse to articulate that business strategy,” Kanojia said. “Good luck to them.”

Many of us have been saying that long before Aereo.

This will lead to what FOX is wanting to do, all the networks offering different programming on OTA broadcasts than what is offered on cable/satellite. This forces them into continuance of the carriage fees.

For me Fox and Comcast are already offering inferior programming on their ota broadcasts compared to their cable offerings. USA and SyFy both have better programs than NBC and FX has better programming than Fox.

Sources: A La Carte Bill Includes Aereo-Friendly Provision

A few more details were emerging about the a la carte bill in the works from veteran cable price critic Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and they are said to include an Aereo-friendly provision that would require the FCC to auction the spectrum of a broadcaster who tried to move its must-have programming to cable.

According to multiple sources, the bill would tie a la carte to the compulsory license and get rid of the sports blackout rule as well as the provision that could provide a boost to Aereo architect Barry Diller if the court's uphold the legality of his TV station online delivery system.

I'm sure CBS and Fox will be spending a lot of money to try and get this stopped.
