Yes, this is the kicker for me. Why tell your customers to try other services. Do you really want them to see if they can live with those alternatives and then drop you? It's almost like Dish saying we don't want those channels and the people who watch them!

Yeah, telling us to watch them from Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, etc. and buy the unavailable ones from iTunes and Amazon, then ditch satellite all together because we might find out we like only getting what we want and when.
The internet being my tv service provider from now on sounds like a great idea. Thanks Dish!

So the 20% that answered they will definitely be dropping Dish, the phone number is 800-333-DISH. If you are planning to switch to ATT, make sure they didn't drop AMC tonight as well.

I will not drop dish - AMC was not in my programming tier. Breaking Bad is the only show I care for on AMC - it's filmed here and tons of the filming locations are within 10 minutes of me plus it's so well written/acted that I think it's among the best shows ever on TV.

I just watch it on DVD's - each season DVD is cheaper than if I were to have upped my tier for 2-3 months just to get AMC for Breaking Bad, plus I can watch any season of breaking bad on my DVD's anytime I want as a bonus!

I fail to understand why people are so upset over a television channel. Specially, a television channel that bloats a two hour movie into three for the sake of cramming 4 or 5 minutes worth of commercials down your throat after 10 minutes of program viewing…

Because they're not upset about losing commercial-laden movies on that channel, but losing critically acclaimed original programming.

I fail to understand why people are so ignorant that they don't know that. And, if they're not ignorant, than I fail to understand why they'd post stupid nonsense with the apparent hope to stir up crap.

Will be intresting to read feedback from the subs on there new service, while no service is perfect hopefully folks will be happy with there new choice and meets there viewing needs

I tried to cancel Dish but they offered me 3 months of HBO, Cinemax and Showtime plus a $10 credit for 12 months. I accepted that for now. That's a a lot of freebies plus a discount so couldn't pass it up. If they haven't worked out their problems by the time Walking Dead is about to premiere this fall then I will look at swtiching then.

Good to see they added something to keep you happy!

Nothing new to say here. I considered dropping. I watch Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels (even though it probably won't last) and Walking Dead. I talked to a pushy DirecTV salesman at Sam's Club yesterday about switching over. (He wasn't too pushy but just enough to be annoying. No I don't want to go ahead and sign a contract to "Get the ball rolling". And I have to pass a credit check to not have to pay for the receivers?) I did learn something though, He told me DISH has only 6 satellites and 2 of those are DirecTV satellites. And that DirecTV has 16 satellites. That's one of the reasons DirecTV is better than DISH. :\

So we'll stick with DISH for many reasons. I did downgrade my package this morning to America's Top 120 and drop BB@Home. That $25 / mo will make them know I mean business! :)

I just called and dropped Dish. It took less than 10 minutes. It's FTA, OTA, and Netflix for me.

The first hedge? :)

(I don't blame you, if you are happy otherwise why not)
There's certainly nothing wrong with accepting discounts and freebies in lieu of cancelling. It's a valid trade-off. In fact, most of the complaints about Dish dropping AMC nets is that so many of us are getting nothing to compensate. $120 discount and $105 freebie is pretty decent compensation.

Of course, that doesn't help those who feel the loss, yet are still locked in contract. But, then again, those subs couldn't cancel without paying an ETF. So, very few of them were planning on cancelling over AMC, anyway, I'm sure.

$120 will buy 40 HD episodes of AMC programming from Itunes/Amazon...

Uhhhh other way around!! Direct tv has two sats...dish six. Ive had direct tell me that before as well. What loosers..lol

Direct does not have 16 sats. It has two or three. Dish has 129,119,110,105,89 and someother bell ones. Dish is echostar and really big into the sats up in space deal. They pretty much rule up there...ive always wondered how direct works off so less

DIRECTV satellites are not the same as Dish satellites. DIRECTV uses a different satellite band that has 1Ghz of Ka spectrum per slot vs Dish's 500Mhz Ku band per slot. DIRECTV also has 3 Ku Band slots (101, 110, 119). There are all sorts of trade offs between the two bands and technologies involved. DIRECTV uses an array of spots vs Dish's large spots. This is just a rough overview, it is very involved as to what each one has in DBS spectrum. You cannot count all of Dish's Hughes band satellites since they do not do the TV for Dish.

The technologies are very different. But, in the end they end up with a similar amount of carrying capacity. Remember Dish has 7 slots, but 3 mirror the other 3 except for locals, and one is used for internationals.
