Not happy with the Dish Hopper DVR

You know this would be wonderful if it could be integrated into my current system. It really would, but currently I have 10 tuners for the 6 of us and that is not always enough. I love dish network would never have anything else in the world so hopefully they will find some way to change their policy down the road. So that you can intermix legacy equipment and have the new also.

could also be never since Scott hasn't come back with any new info on the ability to mix equipment.
That is really going to p***-off a lot of us RVers. I don't imagine I'd leave over it, but I'll be one bitter SOB if I have to choose between new technology and having Dish in the desert.

This is sounding like Pocket Dish all over again.

On dishes website under the taiigater tab there is frequently asked questions that specifically states no mixing vip equipment with hopper setups. Whether or not its true it is in black print on their website.

I think they may make an exception for people with tailgaters. You won't be able to use the receiver in your house but it may still work with the tailgater. Just what I was told by someone.

Which could just mean that you can't connect a VIP receiver to the hoppers dish, but you could install a separate dish to run that one?

Not to be a broken record but my deal is being able to move shows from the house to the trailer VIP612 using EHD. The tailgater kills that because the 722/Hopper EHD won't work with a 211.

I'm sure I'm spoiled but when we camp we get to catch up on the episodes of Good Wife or NCIS or Person of Interest or Mad Men or Breaking Bad, etc. And what we don't watch we transfer back to the 722 when we get home. But this requires both VIP receivers be on the same account so the EHD works between them.

It says a 2nd account is needed. Adding a vip 211 would be as simple as using the 3rd port on a 1k2 or 1k4 if only 1 hopper were used. Again this is plainly listed on their website for all to see.

I pray from your keyboard to Charlies ears. (OK Charlie's gone, but you know what I mean and I know it's not Charlie's ears but eyes)

I know what you're saying and was under the same presumption but I have heard otherwise recently from some in the know.

It's not the equipment or the money. It's the shows I want to see on the Hopper getting to the camp ground. Just "watching TV" isn't a problem. There are plenty of ways to do that.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that one is going to work out yet. Only time will tell. I've raised my concern to dish and they are aware that people are curious about it. Just no answers yet.

I'm just relaying what I'm reading on their site. Tailgater - Portable Satellite TV Antenna - Take TV Outdoors With DISH!

If folks are carrying vip receivers back & forth why not do the same with a 2nd hopper?

The hopper won't work with a tailgater but I suppose it should work with a 1000.2 setup. I don't think the hopper is designed for taking out of the home. That being said dish will need to keep a easy way for customers to have mobile dish setups without a second account.

I know what you're saying and I believed it when you originally posted it. Since you've posted that I have heard conflicting reports from people that should know the right answer. Once again I'm not believing anything until this is officially released. Just too many conflicting reports and all being from dish.

That would do it for me. If I can buy a Hopper (because it wouldn't be activated between trips and leased equipment has to be returned if deactivated) and there isn't a requirement to have it connected to a phone line or internet I'm all over that.

It's serious overkill for camping but if it is doable then color me happy.

Heck if your just watching recorded shows you wouldn't even need a dish, and if you did a 1k2 or 1k4 with the node/switch mounted to back of dish and it would be business as usual.

Ooh. Good point.
