I dont know if they will be able to replace them right away, because you know Voom is going to fight this in court.

Yes, VOOM is that important to me to pay more. I like "unique" programming. The VOOM channels were indeed unique, different, refreshing and not the same old bull**** you can get everywhere else. Dedicated, unique channels in HD with no commercials, unedited programming and no frustratingly annoying pop ups during your movie is SPECIAL! VOOM was special. Dish threw it away.

I'm moving as soon as I know for sure what VOOM's fate is. Money is no issue to me as I'm very financially secure so it's a matter of principal. I'm in the process of researching DirecTV right now and so far it's looking good. Same stuff as Dish with the bonus of Nick HD, Spike HD and FSN NY HD.

I'd be anxious to know how much people are paying, though? Everyone seems so quick to jump ship based on programming, but is anyone looking at the difference in price?

For me it's a no-brainer. To get exactly what I'm getting with E* from D* (including the channels, fees, & receivers) I would actually be spending $25/month more...and that's a BIG deal. To go to Comcast the difference is an astounding $30-$35 more per month!

Is losing VOOM that important that you'd be willing to pay more?

Said it before and I'll say it again..Adding some Nat'l channels is cool, I guess, but it's NOT HD..NOT HD...NOT HD...NOT HD...NOT HD...NOT HD. VOOM WAS HD-repeats or not, it WAS HD. I didn't buy a HDTV for SD content!!!!!! I would've stuck with my Sony Trinitron for SD..If I hear one more person say: "But look at all the other HD channels we got in place of VOOM!" THERE ARE NONE (ok, maybe 3 or so) 3<15=we got screwed for HD. If they did some sort of poll that resulted in people saying they'd prefer Nat'l HD channels, it's either b/c: A. they thought they would be in true HD or B.they have no freakin' clue what HD is..It's simple; 90% of the new channels are NOT in HD!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH! (stabbing myself with a broken pencil in my eye)

Bottom line for me is Dish is noe in the red with me in the HD department the took channels I watched and replaced them with channels I do not watch. I am stuck with a contract till the end of the year , but instead of staying at the end of the contract, I will go looking for a better deal if it is out there. Before you Dish loyalist attack, let me say I will not leave if a better deal or channel package is not out there. My point is the way they do run their operation has made me think about leaving. If you did right by me I would not leave. I get a discount on service and I am still thinking of leaving, what does that say about Dish! It is more about the way they treat the consumer. I know this had nothing to do with what channels were "popular " and everything to do with lawsuits. Yet they assume I am too stupid to see their lies. Why put up with this kind of treatment if you have a choice. They claim Voom breached htier contract, In my eyes Dish breached theirs with ME. In a nut shell they lost a loyal customer, now I am just a customer.

So, instead of adding 22 channels, Dish has a net add of 5 nationals and 2 RSNs. Morons.

Remember, they still have several other channels uplinked that can be turned on in the next couple of weeks.....I know that will not make Voom fans feel much better......but Charlie knows He needs to get aggressive with HD channels.

I was browsing through the PG this morning to see what I needed to record to watch later. There were only to channels of importance MGM and HDnet Movies and both are showing Movies which I already have seen or I am not interested in watching. The premium channels like HBO, starz, cmax, and showtime is showing their usual repeats in the month and there's nothing new to see. The PG has definetly shrink these days.

Go to D*'s website. I got the package similar to my Dish Ultimate (which is $140) for $25 less.

The problem is that the general populace is not filled with the HD-geeks like you and me. In the end E* has to try and get subscribers and we are definitely living in an age where "brand recognition" rules. I really think the DirecTV ads about the "Channels you've never heard of" hurt E* more than we know.

I blame this more on the "masses" and VOOM than anything else. Although, I blame E* for the poor way they handled the removal.

I concur..but as I said before why did the "non-geek-masses" even bother with an HDTV? For maybe 10-15 HD channels? Maybe when "the masses" realize they're watching "glorified SD" (so it's in 5.1-whoop-di-do) they'll miss the "TRUE" HD content..Man, I'm a " " machine..:D

Honestly the masses we're talking about bought those HDTV's for their network programming. All they really care about seeing in HD is Lost, CSI, E/R, etc. and their regional NFL games on Sunday.

There are those who care about some of the pay channels in HD, but again it's strictly to watch the popular shows in HD. Branching out to find an eye-popping experience is not #1 on their agenda.

Expressvu still has the 3 voom channels

TreasureHD
EquatorHD
RaveHD

They also have a Canadian one:
OasisHD

Don't know how long they will be there though, if they lost Dish, and only send to Expressvu and Optimum, how long can they go on?

well- Ive now have been given a reason to vent instead of lurk.
Dish Network has been the biggest piece of crap outfit Ive ever had to deal with, the only reason I kept a subsciption and dealt with thier
craptastic way they do buisness- is that they did offer something I really did enjoy- monstershd, ..now that they dont offer, at least for the moment..
Ive had it with Dish..and will move back to cable-who I thought at the time
was awful..boy, did I get a wake-up call with these clowns..
By the way- this board is awesome- very insightful for info.

The number 1 reason among people I know for buying an HDTV is to get sports in HD.

Man, spending a couple grand to watch 3 or 4 shows in HD..I'm in the wrong profession..I wish they'd buy me a Rolls-Royce to just drive around on Sunday...

Is it possible that this is a negotiation ploy by Dish to force Voom to either

A: Spend more on programming content

OR

B: Lower the prices per subscriber

?

The #1 reason I thought anybody bought an HDTV was to watch HDTV...NOT SD!!!!!!!!!! I don't know anyone who bought an HDTV just for sports. This still doesn't explain the desire for people to demand these Nat'l channels in SD over any other channels in HD..We (masses) already had ABC Family, Disney, etc. So what, now it's in 5.1...........IT'S STILL SD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that the ultimate debate here? Losing HD for SD??? (and the way it was handled, I guess)
:eureka:eureka:eureka:eureka:eureka:eureka:eureka Hey, I LOVE NCAA basketball and NASCAR in HD but what happens when the seasons end or between games, move my big-screen out of the living room and put my 32" in it's place to watch standard programming??

I just got off the phone with an account specialist? and the lady told me that Dish got rid of the Voom channels, not because of the lawsuit going on right now (I doubt that very much), but because of the new HD channels that were launched. She said Dish wants to bring the Voom channels back but she didn't know when they would be back. It sounds like a PR statement but I dunno if it's true.
