I have been quiet on this...
But I suspect that Dish has hired some old Enron Accountants to count their HD channels.
The gist of that is what worries me. Do they have enough on the ball to sit back and make a clear assessment and focus on real goals? Or are they playing a game that benefits no one in the long term?
You are totally missing this.
First, these channels are not on full-time, they are on for certain "GAMES ONLY".
Second, when they ARE lit, they are not national, they are turned on for local home market customers only. Nothing to do with blackout rules, as the home market is NOT blacked out for its home baseball games.
Third, if you take the time to read the link to the Press Release, you will easily see that is the FIRST announcement when they added HD-RSNs, and states they are game only for home market. It is common knowledge that they have since added other RSNs in a similar manner.
My point was not what you said earlier rather your reaction to him trying to point out that E* did not count many RSNs, and that you became so offended by it. This thread is about HD count, not where you can see what programming, so when someone tried to point out a possible misconception that E* counted the RSNs, it is perfect point to correct such notion, more so than your argument who can see what feeds. Therefore your apparent anger toward such clarification is unnecessary IMO.
I know all the reasons behind D*'s plan delay, my other point was maybe all the tension from you and many D* subs was because we (both D* and E* subs) had thought for some time that by this time D* would have already beat E* by having twice or three times of HDs, yet in reality E* still manages to steal the claim of having the most HDs. As a result I see some of you become very disturbed by the fact they counted the 8 PPVHDs. How dare they do so! If we can't say D* has twice/three times of HDs, at least we can say E* is making up its HD count.
For over a year D* maxed out its bandwidth and did not add any HDs while downrezzed their handful, all the while promoted a grand plan for over a year time. When E* is perceived to have run out of bandwidth, they actually managed to continue to add new HDs, and improve HD PQ with the latest MPEG4 equipment, while at the same time anticipating new sats to go up and add to the bandwidth. E* may not have the lead in absolute count for now, but as an HD sub who has benefited by the HDs in the past year or two from E*, what E* is doing now actually is a pleasant surprise to me, I was prepared to suffer the same thing the D* HD subs did in the past year or two, not to see any thing new until sometime next year. Not only E* managed to add some new HDs (those that really count, not all SD upconverted ones only to claim an HD slot), but the new HD PQs are excellent.
An outcome certainly not most of us had expected, from both D* HD subs and E* HD subs.

Actual you can. If you have the Sports Pack, you get all the HD RSNs. Blackout rules apply, but I can watch the national FSN college football game on multiple HD RSN channels.

Yes folks need to see what Channels are be included in the total number count. Like some TV Service Providers are including all of the RSN HD Channels and PPV HD channels so forth. When really those are not a ""National Network Channel"" like a USA Network so forth so there is a difference. Overall it really dont matter due to every provider will be able to carry the National Network Channel once they get their HD Version of their channel up. So in the long run the numbers will be about the same and Direct,Dish and whoever else will carry about the same channels.

All lot of people don't know to look at channels 77, 92, 510 and 541 (heck, I only now of channel 77) and if they don't look at this site or dbstalk, then they probably don't know about any of the new channels. I bet my next door neighbor doesn't know about them yet.
You don't have to "look" for new HD channels on DirecTV. HD channels default over SD channels in the guide. If, say, you'd never heard anything at all about Sci-Fi channel being in HD, you'd simply be pleasantly surprised when you turned to channel 244 and it showed up.
If they're going to count something questionable, it might as well be PPV since it is available for you to watch 24/7. Counting a channel that is on three hours per week (BTN, NHL, NFL and RSN game day channels) is wrong on all levels. The only thing that could be more wrong is if they counted VOD.

Once again, the same people are arguing over the same stupidity with no right or wrong answer. There is enough misinformation on both sides and no one cares who has what now and who counts what which way. Well, I shouldn't say no one cares, only the same people who foolishly argue the point do. The rest of us don't. Why don't you take your fight to the pit?
what it shows me is that people, even some E* subs(me included) think bloating your numbers just to save face is kind of tacky, and people talk about it
