What is the fate of Angel One on Dish when SA goes all IPTV?

Any guess if Dish will keep Angel One Programming when SA goes all IPTV?

Shopping channels do not fulfill federally mandated public interest requirements. Religious channels do.

Certainly, SA* should need to pay the "wholesale" price that any other PI channel would have to pay, but I don't see why they wouldn't keep the one channel on Dish. Heck, they might even try to get it on DirecTV.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if they lose their plum position of Angel One on 119, and are shuffled off to 110 at some point.

Maybe keeping it on Dish is part of the agreement that Dish had to accept in order to get SA's transponder licenses.

Also, as a Public Interest channel, Dish cannot tell Angel One (or any other PI channel) what they are or are not allowed to say. Dish cannot control any content of any PI channel. They have a statutory right to their freedom of speech under the relevant FCC rules.

Granted, they cannot run commercial advertisements under the PI rules, but since the Sky Angel service is technically offered by the non-profit "Dominion Foundation" not the for-profit "Dominion Video Services" - this is okay, because they would be technically soliciting for a non-commercial foundation's IPTV service.

SA was not holding any cards, I'm sure, in this deal. I'll bet they were so overjoyed to get rid of the licenses and focus on IPTV they had few or no stipulations in the contract.

If they were smart, they would try to get Angel1/2/KTV on the Glorystar system in an attempt to woo people into their IPTV service. Some might keep Glorystar (since there is no monthly fees anyway) AND subscribe to Skyangel IPTV to get the channels they wouldn't get on Glorystar (if glorystar continues to pull in stations, that may not be the case), but if anything, they can still gain viewers to be aware they are there.

IPTV is the waive of the future so that, in a sence, is a good move for SkyAngel. It is a bad move in another sense if they get off of satellite completely, as all of their customers had a satellite system and many if not most do not and may not be able to get the IPTV service. It would be best if SkyAngel could lease some space from Dish to continue the service. Dish seems to have a bit of space up there that they could lease to them. I remember SkyAngel saying how they were going to build their own satellites. Whatever happened to that?

Well, you certainly won't be seeing that now--I believe that because of the deal SA recently made with E*, SA is giving up their license to operate a satellite platform.

What you can already get from Dish without SA:

They could be repackaged as a faith and family tier. If they were going bare bones with channels they already have. The essential component they would need to add in my opinion would be Gospel Music Channel. If they were only adding one channel. They will also be free to add anything they want if SA Sat service is not available.

That's a lineup I could live with.

If they cannot afford to lease at least one transponder on a satellite to continue their service by now after being in service all these years then their business is not profitable enough to sustain itself in its current form. They would have to add a lot of customers to their IPTV platform (almost like starting all over) to have a decent chance at making it. Perhaps they could save up money to start leasing transponder space again on satellite or better yet, make a deal with Dish Network/Directv to put their content on their satellite. GloryStar is free and you can use FTA receivers for that so its hard to compete with that. The advantage that SkyAngel has is that they require a smaller cheaper dish that is easier to align to receive the service and had a basic package of channels in which made watching tv very affordable.
