Pansat 9200 review?

I have no issues with channel changes on mine either. The only issue I have is when I go into the "edit satellites/tp" it doesnt show the list on the left of the satellites. If I am on G11 last I know I the cursor is on G11 but I can't see the list to edit TP's

Well, so far, I gotta say, I am pretty impressed with this unit.

The only complaint I have so far is:
I was playing with one config on my setup
STB--> Ecoda 22khz -->Motor -->Disqc
.......................\ -->Diseqc

I seem to lose a ton of signal using the 22khz. It was so much loss, that I lost the hockey game (among many other things) on G17. Anyone else that has one notice this?

My box came with the current factory firmware on it. So that is not needed

I dont have a motor in mine but have the same setup and I dont see any loss of signal

mine goes
receiver---ecoda---4x1
-----------------------4x1

Does it matter if the motor is 22khz on or off ? I am losing signal ONLY from the motor side. I ordered a couple spare's the other day, so I'll be able to swap out the switch next week to test, but I don't remember seeing this problem with my Conaxsat.

Iceberg -

I remember you used to sport a Coolsat 8000 for HD.
Must've been asleep when you replaced it with the Pansat 9200.

I see a lot of posts were cut out of this thread.
Maybe that's what I missed?

I'm looking forward to reading a full suite of reviews of all the HD-capable receivers.
Though, maybe more for use on C-band than Ku.
Any chance the vendors will cooperate? - :up
They should. A favorable discussion on the forum should generate sales.

In the mean time, I will keep my eyes glued to this thread for more info on the 9200.
Thanks.

It shouldn't matter if the motor is on the 22k side or not. I have a motor on both sides of an ecoda switch and have no problems (other than occasionally both motors move, when only one should)

'Nole, over on the 4dtv site they have a long thread about that pansat (there's a fta section there also) The consensus seems to be that the discontinued, no longer hip 9000 had the better tuner sensitivity, that the newer model seemed to miss a lot of feeds blind-scanning. Maybe that's something that can be addressed later. I hope Im not violating any rules by mentioning another site...it's not a hacker site, and you can log on as a guest to read.

hmm. Well, other than the weird 22khz issue, I gotta say the sensitivity is fine and blind scan works great when not using the 22khz.

Well, my 9200 is due to arrive today. Hopefully I'll have time to play tonight and get it setup.

If anyone would like me to try some stuff, let me know in this thread and I'll try to address anything I can and try to write a review this weekend.

Satinkzo, I read that this unit has an upscaleable picture setting. Does it indeed have this? If so how does it work? I mean you can't take a non HD broadcast and turn it into HD with a receiver so, what is this feature?

it allows you to take a 4x3 SD picture and blow it up full scale to fit in a 16x9 picture so you dont have the box around it

Ahh so it has nothing to do with picture quality? I'm glad I asked. My TV does that. I really want an HD receiver. I'm missing too many HD feeds but, I'm wrestling with the decision on the pansat or the viewsat 9000.

I just downloaded the newest Pansat 9200 software (well from Nov 1) and DAMN the box is MUCH better

Things fixed from the original software
-when you wanted to delete TP's it didnt show the satellite list on the left. That has been fixed
-The box use to kinda whack out when it would do a blind scan. If you tried to scan another satellite the box seemed to go goofy. This has been fixed

Yeah, that's the version mine shipped with Iceberg. That explains why I was lost on your earlier comment on the deletion of TP's and no satellites.

So it's got an esata port for a hard drive but the pvr doesn't function?

How sweet would it be if it was a dual tuner with 4:2:2 capability and, of course working PVR?

According to emails from Pansat, the eSata port and pvr will be enabled next year.

My Conaxsat was like that. It was not fully functional for quite a while release.

So eventually your conaxsat was upgraded with a simple software upgrade? Nice. Does the menu on the 9200 let you know what the resolution is when you find a HD feed? You know, say you find a cricket match in HD does it say 1080i or anything? I thought there were some menu pics here but, I can't find them.

Yes, the 9200 shows me if I am watching 1080 or 480. I haven't found a 720 feed so I doin't know what it does there.

yes it shows 720. Seem lots of feeds in 720. Really need to get a HDTV so I can actually see the stunning pipcture ;)

I can appreciate a company getting a product out there, even when all its functions haven't been completed.
It gives 'em feedback, public exposure, early income, bragging rights, etc.

But some have also ended early models, adding necessary features to the next version, and leaving early adopters high and dry.
This is often the result of necessary hardware changes or additions.
(Tuner or CPU capable of 4:2:2, or hard drive interface.)
If an upgrade, swap-out, or plug-in were offered at a modest price, the early users wouldn't feel forgotten.
Unfortunately, I've not seen that happen.

For these reasons, I'd caution anyone against buying a product that doesn't have at least partial functionality and written specs regarding all features you hope to see working.
Good luck to those early adopters who trust any company.
I certainly hope for the best. - :up

yeah it was weird. You'd say "edit TP's" and on the left hand side all the satellites were listed in order but you couldn't see them. the TP info did show properly :)
