Question regarding Wireless router..

I had a DGL-4500: D-Link GamerLounge - DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router , after 2 days I decided to return it, because I kept losing signal and my router kept rebooting itself after 3-4 minutes being on PS3 Online/Xbox Live...I was frustrated with their customer service located in another part of the world, and when I get escalated they disconnected me.

I am looking for a wireless router that will work when it comes outside the box...

I will be using it for computer/ PS3 Online/ Xbox live and my HR20-700 (VoD).
I am a hardcore gamer when it comes to PC's and I don't want a crappy router.
I am willing to spend the money, money is no issue here..as long as I get a product that doesn't give me an headache..I am willing to spend money on it.

Things I am looking into a router:
-Reliable
-That doesn't disconnect me whenever I get on xbox live or PS3 Online when I am connected to the internet on my PC/HR20
-Connectivity (I am looking for something that is at least 95-100% uptime)
-No lag
- Something that lasts more than few months.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL, with the open source DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) std - build 3932 firmware.

I have two computers hard wired; laptop, NDS, Wii on wireless, and a switch linked with my Dish box and HD-DVD.
It has never given me any problems and the WRT firmware adds a ton of features that the default Linksys firmware doesn't have.

That said, I don't use XBL or PS3 so can't tell you anything about those. But I do online gaming and On Demand movies through the router without problems.

It's kind of extreme, but extremely robust

This solution is not for the non-technically inclined and uses a tad more electricity than a standalone home router, but basically once it's up and running it'll run for years without interruption, literally:

1. Get hold of an older, "not useful for much of anything anymore" PC, or build a small MicroATX or MiniITX system. Not something powerful - any system having a CPU running over 300MHz, 128MB RAM, and 2GB HDD will do.(you can build this for less than $100.00)

2. Make sure the system has two Network interface cards(NICs), be it two PCI cards or one PCI & one integrated into the motherboard-no usb, though.

3. Download Smoothwall Express(it's free!) ->Welcome to Express 3.0! - SmoothWall.org

4. Burn the ISO to a blank CD, temporarily connect a CD-ROM drive & monitor to your just-procured PC(it won't need them as part of the system full time), set the bios to boot from CD, and follow the on screen instructions for initial setup.

5. After setup, power it down, disconnect CD-ROM & monitor, close PC Case, place it near your cable/DSL modem, plug your "RED" interface from setup into your modem, plug your "GREEN" interface from setup into a ethernet switch or your old wireless router(reconfigured as an access point), connect all your computers & other devices to your network, power cycle your modem, and power up your new PC based router.

6. Log into your just built Smoothwall's web interface(192.168.1.1) and enable UPnP for XBox live compatibility.

That's it. You now have a Linux based firewall/router thats infinitely more powerful and reliable than most anything you can buy. I personally use (FreeBSD based)m0n0wall, but it doesn't have UPnP and as long as this post is, I didn't want to go through the process of explaining how to open ports in m0n0 to get XB Live working properly.

If you get a good one. There's been so many bad histories about the DI-624. Luckily I got one that has not given me any problems, it's been very solid for over 3 yrs.

Linksys WRT150N here. PC hard wired, A2 hardwired via homeplug adapter, PS3, PSP, and Wii, all wireless. I have all my devices set up with static IPs. No problems at all.

Geeeze, no! I have a cheapo Belkin router for the last year now with 3 wired PCs, an XBOX360, and 2 - 3 wireless notebooks connected all the time and I have only needed to reboot it a couple times over the last year.

Maybe you just got a bad one.

Here is mine. Works with 3 wireless connected as well as on demand downloading at the same time. I can't remember a single time in the year we have had it when it needed to be reset or rebooted.

Take a peek at the Cnet or other profession testing and review sites. Most user reviews are VERY skewed due to lack of knowledge on a product, how to opperate, or device group in general and how it acts within their entire network, and many others rank simply on bottom-line prices. So take those with a grain of salt!

Granted that some of the best still were released a while ago; many of the new stuff is just hype at this point until N is 110% final. Also make sure to get the recommended revision of said item and before you startup check what firmware you should be using. In fact maybe firmware is your current issue. Something free to check before spending.

Linksys debuts a Draft N router for gamers | Crave : The gadget blog

$155+ seems like a lot of over-kill and over-priced to me. What exactly are you needing your wireless router to do; in priority order. I would think you could shave $50 - $75 for a less-hyped but equal device.
