Thinking of switching to DirecTV.

If I turn on the regular remote's RF function, can I still use my Sony universal IR remote to control the hr20/21 as well?

Thanks

No, only ir or rf at one time.

well that's just silly. So if I want to use the RF function in two rooms I have to buy a completely new universal RF remote.

I believe that you can set up one remote to control two receivers using the slide switch on top to change back and forth. Check here and at dbstalk for threads.

Can you at least use the left, right, up, down arrows to fast forward, rewind, pause, and stop like with comcast dvr?

No, its all or nothing, IR or RF for the hr20/21.

But if you were to get a R15, it would accept both IR & RF, but thats if the receiver was never set to RF mode in the first place. If had been set RF mode at least once, you can still get it to accept both IR & RF again. You would have set it to IR mode, then do a red button reset, after the reset it would be in state as if it never had been placed into RF mode before.

I mean, with any directv remote, do the arrow keys double as the FF,RW,Pause, Stop buttons and the OK=play?? I'm accustomed to that from comcast.

No. The Directv remotes have those keys already. Why would you want them duplicated?

Comcast has dedicated keys too, but also lets you use the arrows so that you don't have to shift your hand to get at all the main features.

Plus the universal remote that I have doesn't have that many keys so I can use the dedicated FF/RW buttons to learn other seldom-used commands.

Everyone on here usually dismisses the cable dvr's immediately, but from what I'm finding out with no dlb, these remote issues, etc. I'm not so sure it's warranted! I'm glad I asked questions beforehand!

Thanks

Go with what you like better which is obviously Comcast.

no rf hr20-100

i had a faulty hr20-700 replaced with hr20-100 and neither old or new remote{fcc approved} will work on rf even though in system info it says it's set on rf- anything i can do or are the 100's not capable of using rf remotes??
THANX
