Is there a way to send suggestions to Dish for improvements to their equipment? I have been using the VIP722 for about six months now and have gotten use to all the little things it lacks from my experience with other DVRs (Tivos, MOXIs, Direct TV, etc). But one of the things it lacks is a biggy to me and I wish there was a way to add it. Does dish have a special email to their tech department, CEO, or Charlie to send suggestions? Or, is there no way customers can suggest things?

No kidding dude, WHAT IS IT. Don't you think there's a chance that somebody here could fill you in, if it's something that's already planned as an update?

When watching a timer program that is still recording, there are no stop and resume buttons if you want to stop watching it. We watch timer programs all the time that are still recording. If we want to stop watching it for any reason, there is no way to stop or resume the recording. When we are ready to watch the recording again, you have to start over and try to remember the recording time you left off at so you can fast forward to that spot. Tivo and MOXI DVRs have a stop and resume button in their program for this situation. I think this could be added with a software update. What do yall think?

Maybe i don't understand what you are saying, but there is a way to do this. It's called push the stop button! When watching a DVR'ed event when you want to stop it, push the stop button. Then when you want to watch it again, find it in the My Recordings list, select it, then push the top bubble that says RESUME!

Hope that helps!

I think OP is referring to while watching a program while it is being recorded. My wife and I also experience the same thing. If you try to hit stop it will ask if you want to end the recording. If you simply change the guide channel (if you don't have all timers going), when you go back to finish watching that program you can only start from the beginning and not where you left off.

You are missing some key words I said. When you are watching a DVR'ed event that hasn't finished recording yet, there is no way to stop
what you have watched and then resume it again. If you press the stop button on the remote a window pops up and says "Your request will stop the TV recording and switch to live mode TV." I don't want to stop the recording, I just want to stop at the point of the recorded portion and then resume at that point later on. This DVR does not have that capability for some reason, that I can find. If there is a way I am all ears. Not having this feature is a big irritant to me.

Well put cummingsje, thanks. I am not good at words.

I for one would like that feature added as well. I have a 622 but you would think that a simple software "fix" could get it done. When I had com* a couple of years ago, even though their motorola box was extremely inferior, at least it would allow for continuing a a "stopped" DVR event (while watching as it records) where you left off. Small nuisance but a nuisance none the less.

I was with Charter Cable and had MOXIs and Motorola DVRs. But both products were very inferior as far as working properly. The MOXI mechanical side would keep breaking down and the Motorola software guide kept screwing up. That is the main reason I switched to Dish TV because of the highly reliable 722 DVR. But, I sure was surprised the 722 lacks several sweet things the MOXI and Motorola DVRs have. I have found ways around the DVR with help from folks in this Forum. But, the only thing that there is no way around is this stop/resume issue while the DVR is recording. My wife and I use this quite a bit and it is very annoying that it can't be stopped and resumed while it is still recording. I think suggesting it to Dish technical department would be of no use. They have too many other issues going on.

I don't have Dish anymore, but wouldn't pausing do the same thing? I believe if the tuner is paused, you can go about whatever else you want and still come back. I could be wrong though.

Yes, you can pause it but, it has to stay in that mode. Lets say you want to start to watch it again later on, next day, or you want to watch something else. You have to take it out of the pause mode. Once that is done it looses its place where stopped at. So yes, you are correct. But that is only good if you are temporary stopping it and coming right back to it a little later, which we do sometimes. But, most of the time we go back to re-watching and finishing up a timed event the next morning. So what I try to do is press cancel and write down the recording time number and the next morning, start the recording over and go to the number I wrote down. That really sucks. It should have a stop and resume feature for timers that are still recording while watching.

Oh, my bad. Now I understand what you want.

Have you tired pausing it, turning off the power, then truing the power back on? I'm not near my TV now to test this, but I am guessing that if you did that, it would work. When you shut it off when it is paused, it should save the position. When you turn it back on (or you could leave it off if you were done with the TV that night) you would be able to watch another channel, etc. Then, once the timer event is done recording, it would show up in the DVR list, and when you click it, it should give you the option to resume. Again, I can't test this now, but it would be my best guess.

Hope that works!

Scott, let me know how your test goes. Thanks for your inputs.

I'll chime in and say this is something we would like to have as well.

It does sound like it should be a simple software fix.

Yes, I would think it would be a simple fix too. Sure would make life easier for me. Nobody is giving me feedback to my question though. I guess there is no suggestion department at Dish. I guess I will try an email to the CEO and see what happens. They are probably way too busy working with HD issues than coming up with a change for the DVR.

Sorry it so long for me to get back to you. I was fooling around with it and could have swore I got it to work. I then garbed my camera and thought I would make a quick video, showing how I did it step by step.

I put in another timer for later tonight, and again, this time I filmed me going step by step. To my surprise, it wound't let me do it! Instead, I just kept geting this message: (see attachment.)

Below is a snapshot from the video I took of the message I was getting. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about, as it is probably the same thing you are getting.

I'll have to keep fooling with it, as I swear I was able to do it once, I just don't know what I did. If I can do it again, i'll post back with the details and maybe a vid to how to do it!

Thanks for trying. I sent the suggestion to several Dish email addresses I have. The Tech and Quality department sent back emails and said they sent it to the appropriate department. I hope they work on it. Time will tell.

This is a known issue

It is a known issue & has been this way ever since the 942 came out. So far E* hasn't been able to change it. Don't know why, but I would like to see it as well.

Well, I wonder if it has ever been brought up to Dishes attention to fix it! I wish Dish had a way to suggest improvements/changes to things. Sent the suggestion to the CEO email address too, but no response yet.
