The Need for SPEED (HD) -- Launches Thursday

I tell you what I have been doing...I have been DVRing all the SPEED broadcasts from Speedweeks..so when I get home from work at night I make sure the first buttom on the remote I push is the DVR button and I watch all the SPEED stuff first then if I feel like watching HD channels I watch them last...IMO the SD on my DLP only looks like dookie AFTER watching HD programming...hopefully DISH will have the HD up and running before Charlotte speedweeks so we all can watch the All-Star race in HD

If you live anywhere near Charlotte, I highly recommend going to the All-Star Race....can't get anymore HD than being there in person. Its a fun night!

Now you're talkin! I haven't seen the All-Star race in person yet but I've been going to the 600 since 2001 and I'll never miss another!!!!
Did you see 'The Humpy Show' on Speed a couple of nights ago?

Nope - I guess I am what some folks call an HD snob. Once I spent all that money buying a big screen HDTV, I basically refuse to watch anything in SD anymore. :)

Wow these duels look really really good. If I squint my eyes just enough I don't see the how blurry the SD looks compared to HD. Thanks again E for putting speed in HD. Now I just hope DJ does good in the second one since Busch blew up

No, we live in Zephyrhills, Fl...we go to the Pepsi 400 (now called the Coke Zero 400) at Daytona every year. We have talked about going to other race tracks, like Atlanta, Homestead..but with 3 very young kids, it is hard to get away much longer than the 3 days we are gone when we go to Daytona.

here is the link to some of my race pics.....

but I totally agree with you, there is no better feeling than feeling the wind and rubber hit you when 43 cars speed past your seats

I agree that the FOX does a better job with NASCAR than anybody else. I'm not crazy about the "Boogity, boogity, boogity...." stuff, but I think DW does a good job and seems to have a grip to what is happening on the track... Of course, he should from years of being on the track.
Things have changed a lot in the last ten years. Some things don't change, but the modern cars are a radical departure from the stock cars that Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons drove and a decided departure from what Darrell Waltrip drove.

I personally prefer the analytical approach that Messers Jarrett and Parsons used, but Waltrip creates the NASCAR mood for the fans.

Yeah, I am sorry, Waltrip in the Booth, not so much. You know the other guys in the booth with him are just shaking their head when he starts in with the Boogity's.....

DSpud, do you know why the season is split up between FOX and ABC? I like it much better with FOX. Wonder what the deal is!!

NASCAR wants more money. They can get more if they sell it as "half" seasons. Part of the selling points is that Fox gets Daytona 500, ESPN/ABC gets the "Chase" (also throw in TNT getting 4 races, which was part of the deal for them giving up their half season to ESPN).

IC, thanks Rwwatson. I knew there was a good reason, just could never find it. I get it now. Thanks again.

It's is all about money, If FOX wanted to be exclusive they could shell out the money when TV package negotiations with NASCAR start back up. It would cost ALOT though

When FOX, NBC and TNT had the deal it was worth $400,000,000.00 a year...when they reworked the broadcast rights it was expected to get $550,000,000.00 a year, with like $250,000,000.00 a year from ABC/ESPN ALONE!

I dont really think that FOX is going to shell out $550,000,000.00 a season to be NASCAR exclusive

The current deal thay have with FOX, ABC/ESPN, TNT, and SPEED is an 8 year deal, that started in 2007
