Honestly, does anyone know the real holdup for SciFi-HD?

What makes you think they have space available? they get some more back on March 31 when SkyAngel shuts off. So, if you don't see it April 1, I would expect a Long wait, possibly until the end of the summer after the Olympics.

If they had the space, the contract and the inclination to put it on, then it would have been available already.

It's not available, so one or more of those ingredients is missing.

My pet theory is the All-Or-Nothing theory:

NBC-Universal owns Sci-Fi and USA. It also owns Bravo, CNBC and MSNBC. All are available in HD.

My guess is Dish won't be able to pick up USA and Sci-Fi HD unless and until it agrees to pick up Bravo, CNBC and MSNBC in HD.

If DISH has the bandwidth for FIVE new HD channels, then you might see BSG in HD.

But probably not. Either Dish does not have the bandwidth, the contract or the inclination.

Same applies to Speed HD. No Speed until Dish picks up FNC HD and FBC HD and SD.

I would say that based on politics, Speed is a LOT LESS LIKELY.

I think it is MOST likely that we will see ESPN News HD, Disney HD, Toon Disney HD and ABC Family HD before we see any of the NBC-U or FOX channels in HD. Why? ESPN is the Big Kahuna. We might even see ESPN-U HD (Coming this summer) before we see any of the NBC or Fox Channels in HD.

Of course, by then we might all be Directv customers. I know D* is looking better to me every day. And I Have been with Dish more than 10 years.

The the moment there is no MSNBC HD so no need for that. I would have thought capacity but Scott G's saying that AMC14's problem won't prevent E* from moving ahead with the HD plans that Charlie's announced and the eastern arc plan for adding channels, it's only 4 transponders they've lost.

MY gess is there waiting for the skyangel TPs so they can add the nbc-u channels they have room on 129 but they dont have room on 61.5 to mirror the channels they add to 129

Yea, that's the problem. Charlie's plans to give us no new, meaningful national HD until the end of the year (if then) are undisturbed and going......FULL STEAM AHEAD. :D

Future news headlines (most likely on EngadgetHD):

April 4th, 2008: Sci-Fi HD not available on Dish Network; CEO promises it will be 'soon'; Battlestar fans threaten to switch to DirecTV.

April 5th, 2008: Dish Network customer service switchboard lights up like Christmas tree; many subscribers make good on threat to switch to other providers

If Charlie thinks it can't or won't happen, my advice to him would be keep up the status quo BS and find out.

That would be my guess too.:)

We should know in the next 2-3 weeks if the SA transponders will come into play for national hd.

All well and good but arent SciFi and USA HD currently uplinked to 110?

Yes. Rumors have been out there that Dish will need to light up all or not any in the Universal suite, which includes CNBC hd, Bravo hd and I believe one other. They will not have room on 61.5 until SA goes dark on Monday. They would be able to mirror these to 129 where there is room to add.

They're currently in the channel mappings for 110, but do not have a signal uplinked yet (bitstreams would imply they're running a slate). However, being at 110 means that E* is not waiting for space at 61.5 for those two at least.
