Time to draw a line in the sand with Ergen

From what I've read in these forums, Ergen is against his employees having a union, and I very much respect his right to be that way and this thread is NOT at all about EMPLOYEE unions.

But how about an unofficial grass-root union of HD subscribers?? Ergen can't say a DAMN thing if WE, the HD subs, all get together and decide to take action regarding HIS inability to deliver HD national channels, no matter what the reason or excuse is.

He promised us in the last Charlie Chat that we would have more HD nationals (and yet we haven't seen a one) before the next Charlie Chat, which is schedule for June 9th. Now that is still 2 months off, but taking action NOW gives Ergen plenty of time and more than a fair chance to get his act together. And yes, I know that Scott has said they are coming this month, and I very much hope he is right. But I think it is safe to say that most of us have serious doubts about this. And that is nothing against Scott, but everything against Ergen.

I say we "draw a line in the sand" with Ergen by firing off e-mails to ceo@echostar.com reminding them of Ergen's promise on the previous Charlie Chat and informing them that if he doesn't deliver some more HD nationals then at 10:00 PM EST on June 9th when the Charlie Chat is scheduled to end, we will be calling D* to get switched over, even if it means eating the contract and we will NOT at that time accept any reasons or excuses for Ergen's inability to deliver more HD nationals.

Like I said before, in the event that we don't get the much-rumored HD nationals this month, this still gives Ergen some time.

Ergen needs to get it done or get out of the way.

Seems a little silly to me. Write a letter to complain sure, but formally organize over something that they are publicly committing to do in the next 60 days, seems silly.

DIsh already has its eyes and ears in this forum; it KNOWS how much discontent there is. But it probably also knows that for every one pissed off Satellite Guy, there are 10 or 100 subs who never say a word, and are generally happy, when compared with Dish's offerings vis a vis cable.

Now, don't get me wrong. I want more HD from Dish, and I don't want it soon, I want it now.... but when the god's of HD deliver, they will deliver. :)

Anyone can draw a line and leave Dish network at any time... Service from them is a personal choice you as a consumer has to make. They are not the only provider out there. Yes you could live in the middle of no where and have only Dish and DIRECTV to choose from, but that is your problem, not Dish's.

In other words if you do not like it leave... Leaving more than anything hurts Dish where it counts.

I really hope that sometime "SOON" this we all be a moot point and we'll all be enjoying new HD channels.

But it is easy to understand Dish HD customers becoming skeptical and losing patience.

Do your self a favor and go ahead and switch already. I did in January but still kept two of my dvrs with DISH and the hd pack only. THis has made me a much calmer person because I no longer have to wait for CHarlie to get off his ass and make new hd available to DISH SUbs. IF you can afford it then I 'd advise to do the same or switch enitirely.

I do like keeping DISH for the dvrs and locals network and ota . I have all 3 tuners going in primetime most of the season and it pays for itself. IF Charlie does indeed add more hd and no more price increase for the hd pack I will be set either way. DIrectv has some quirky dvrs and it has taken me a while to get used to it. I still don't like the way it sets a timer up and I can't check to see if it will record all of the shows it should for new episodes or first run only. I use it for movies and cable shows I can't get with DISH.

CHarlie is going to do what he wants to do and won't change his mind because a few web board members are upset. WE are only like 110,000 strong and even if all of us said we were switching it wouldn't make that much difference to them anyway. For peace of mind for yourself I would advise you to go ahead and switch as it takes the anxiety out of the expectations for new hd. Besides Charlie already said to us if you want more hd than DISH to go ahead and go to DIRECTV already. That is his position on the subject and I think we should follow his advice.

I likely will this fall. Too bad. I like Dish's equipment and the Voom channels. I definitely prefer the rent to own option vs. the down payment to perpetually lease of Direct. My commitment is up in the late fall. I may switch then.

:up

The only way Dish Network will listen to their customers is if they leave. If you want to make your voice heard, switch to another provider. Complaining on these forums will not get your favorite HD channel on Dish Network.

Hit them where it hurts, change provider.

I didn't know dish had a rent to own option.

What was it like 2 weeks ago or less that the last satellite launch was nearly a total disaster? Now complaints about them not moving faster for more HD? Is the bird even in position yet? :D

I understand the concerns. Obviously what's being proposed isn't really a union thing but we get the general point. Like many have said, if you're unhappy just try another provider for a while.

Long story short, I've had a long history off & on of technical and weather related problems screwing up my Dish reception just when I'd get my programing all squared away. Drives me crazy because Direct TV has been near flawless when I subscribe but I couldn't afford both services and Sky Angel was on Dish and I had a 508 fee free DVR receiver. Of course that SA reason died 3/31 thanks in no small part to Charlie asking too much to lease transponders to SA under a new contract so some of those transponders are now part of the HD equation. So perhaps from the death of SA 2 more cities will now have HD locals, one way or another.

It rained this afternoon. Not a heavy rain. My picture froze. Checked the signal and I have 70% or better around - but the picture's still frozen no matter what channel I try to tune to. Rain's been gone for like an hour now and the picture's still froze. Not a total, nothing happening at all freeze but more like stuck in the pixilation border and unable to get a lock.

If you get a good reception and like the package just be patient for more HD or just jump ship. You still get a good picture even in SD. HD will come as soon as possible. As for me, looks like I have to weigh my options - once again - but because I have my subscriptions down to $15 a month I can bide my time for the right deal. If I was paying $50 or $100 a month and stuck in a contract I think I'd be livid today.

There is one dns in the east coast that has been trying to get a union for about 4 yrs. Now some of u might thing that is great keep fighting but the fact is that they haven't been able to give a raise for living expenses the entire 4 years. those are the rules so this one dns is 4 years behind in raises and I bet you that everyone that tried to start the union have quit due to not getting a raise. figure that one out.

Not sure if you're mentioning this in a BTW sense, or if you are relating it to the OP's post.

The OP clearly stated that this had nothing to do with labor unions.

Perhaps instead of saying "grassroot union", he should have said "grassroot movement" as good ole Hillary Clinton would have.

Welcome Newbie. Search the old topics in this forum. The Chat said "subject to contract negotiations". Other posts have good guesses about why not getting some of the new HD channels. For instance:

If the Olympics or extra channel demands or too high of a price increase to subscribers or other demands are being made by NBCUniversal, then you won't be seeing USAHD or SciFiHD on E* anytime soon.

Also, IMO, your June 9th deadline, is not a realistic date. The protestors that voted in last winter's poll, have left the building, when they couldn't get new BSG on SciFi HD from E*. The next tipping point won't be until D* fires up their new bird in September with new HD channels.

Here we go again...

Space was cleared for USA and Sci-Fi months ago on one of the core satellites. More recently, not only was space cleared for several other channels, but they were actually seen testing -- although I think this was on one of the wing satellites.

So whatever's going on, they can't blame it on the new satellite.

Its easier to just switch to D* then ,Demand E* to do anything!

I always vote with my wallet, I WILL NOT be a fanboy of either provider. Whoever has the most bang for my buck gets my business, blind loyalty to E* or D* just causes heartburn. I will churn and churn again when it comes to my money, if it gives D* or E* heartburn, that is their problem not mine.

+1 they both have something for my wallet.
