I started a thread about a Fortec passion recevier
I bought on ebay from mrbogusbaxter. When
i got the receiver it was the Pal standard not Ntsc.
All I could get was a rolling screen so i emailed mrbogusbaxter
and told him i had been dupe by him and the receiver would not
work in the USA.He emailed me back and said .

Hi There,
Might I say dont panic here. I am here to help get all rolling and explain setup. No one deceived anyone, so please do not accuse me of.

Lets backup. First off all, the initial picture (PAL or NTSC) is HD. I enclosed a HDMI cable for you which will for sure display a proper picture. HDMI does not matter of MTSC or PAL, it will display proper. I have not used the S-Video connections though as stated I would only image because it is a PAL receiver it will roll until NTSC channels are scanned. Tune to an NTSC channel and BAM, all snaps to US NTSC.

PAL worries overwith, next...

Let me know how you get with the above and then feel free to hit me back. Will be more than happy to assist and guide through. I have easily gained full picture with a valid subscription card, and the pix quality and sound are beyond belief.

He was correct Hdmi or componet shows find no rolling. If you use Svideo
which defeats the purpose of an HD recevier it will only show pal rolling
screen. It will do DVB-S2 signals without a problem but it will not do 4.2.2 signals

Glad you got your information, hope the US model will be more user friendly. If it ever makes its appearance...

Subscription card? Subscription to what?
who knows, the seller was orig from the uk I beleive his ebay listing stated, they use a few different services over there in euroland.

I really like the system they have over there, you subscribe to a provider and they supply the card, you supply the receiver.

Over on the other side of the pond, subscription cards for DSS television are sold over-the-counter at local stores. The cards are compatible with a variety of receivers from different manufactures. This is why some FTA receivers sold in North America have card slots that serve no useful function.

This is also true in most countries outside of North America. When will we catch up
