I found the WGA54G on Ebay nib for 49.95. Now if I could only get it to work I would be a happy camper. I hate wireless networking stuff.

Wireless router is a Netgear 54G. Security is setup as WAP & WAP2 so it will recognize both TKIP and AES encryption, DHCP is enabled. When setting up the Linksys you only get options to set the SSID, the security scheme and encryption, and DHCP or Static IP. I set the adapter to WAP with TKIP encryption and DHCP. It sees the network, all 3 light are lit, but it will not get an address from the router, either from my PC or the HR21. I have tried shutting all off and turning back on. I have tried all the security and encyiption schemes. I even tried setting a static address for the Lynksys, 192.168.1.250. All the same results. 3 lights but no connection. My laptop works just fine with the same settings. Did I miss something?

Then forget the wireless stuff and get the Home Networking kit from DirecTV. It's a pair of HomePlug 85Mbps Ethernet adapters. Just plug one into the Ethernet port on the receiver and into an electrical outlet and do the same with the other at your router. Done.

Is there any setup screen that asks if you want the adapter to pull the MAC address (or MAC ID) from the device? If there is say yes.

Only settings in the adapter setup I have found are SSID, Security (WAP, WEP, etc), Encryption (TKIP, AES), and DHCP or Assigned IP. I have set these to match the router and the router for some reason does not assign an IP address to the adapter.

My WGA54G works GREAT! Just make sure you set the IP to be STATIC. This implies you need to set the DNS, subnet, and gateway. I've had intermittent problems with the dynamic IP settings.

so, on your computer that is connected to the HUB or wireless hub go to START-->cmd enter, then type ipconfig/all then enter at the prompt
copy all the DNS, subnet, and gateway off of that. Choose an IP which does not conflict with any others on your network. The Linksys software for this Wireless Game Adaptor (WGA54G) is easy to use.

One trick is that you have to have the WGA54G plugged into the router when programming it. Also, you have to have the same security settings on the game adaptor as you do on the router.

OK, I am having another go at getting this to work. I have since switched to a new Linksys router to see if it would work any better, which it does not. I have all the wireless security settings set to match. I have also set a static IP on the router to 192.168.1.250 with the MAC address of the WGA54G adapter, and the adapter set to a static IP of 192.168.1.250. Subnet is set from what was in the data from ipconfig, 255.255.255.0. I have the adapter hooked via cable to one of the NIC's on my PC. I notice you say to hook it to the router instead, but the booklet says to hook it to the PC. Can you do the setup through the router instead ? I spent an hour on the phone last night with "Omar" at Linksys tech support trying to get this to work which ended with him telling me to try a new firmware update for the adapter. I would be glad to try that but you have to actually have a network connection with the adapter to do the update, which I cannot get. I know I am probably missing some little thing but I just don't see it. All 3 lights on the adapter are ON so it is seeing the wireless network. All static IP data has been triple checked for correctness. My feeble brain is telling me it should work, but it does not.

I have it figured out now and will post to say what my problem was. After hours of research today, I started seeing comments on how this adapter, even though it has all the options to do WPA, will not work when in that mode. So I came home and setup a second SSID using WEP, reset the adapter to WEP, and walla, it works. I even left it on DHCP and it works like a charm. It is now hooked to my HR21 and getting all the guide data for VOD. I knew it had to be one silly little thing but it took a long time to find it. I like having the 2 SSID's as I can keep my laptop the most secure and I am not broadcasting the WEP SSID. All I can say is ,,,,, finally.

It's a lot less headache. Since Buffalo bridges are not currently available, I was able to sell one of mine for more than I paid for it.

It took me awhile to get it to work but I had a super old wireless gaming adapter by linksys that I use. I believe the newer ones are much easier to deal with.
