I got a second dish last fall for my cabin and decided to bring my 7.5 ft dish home to the suburbs. It was a 2 hour drive so I tied it down good and avoided the interstate.

Since this is my second install I have to find another 3.5 OD pole which was actually harder and the price of steel has almost doubled over the last 4 years. I did find a 10 footer at a local pluming warehouse.

Since I am in a neighborhood, I went to the village hall and got a permit. Since I was probably the first person in 20 years to put up a big dish in my town the laws are still the same (no dish larger than 15 feet and dishes over 36" need permit). Turned out the permit was free. I decided to pour the concrete at 9 PM last night so it could settle overnight and I wouldn’t have to wait even longer.

After put the dish up and everything works great on my true south galaxy 28. I still have to run the wire to the house and trim a few trees.

I am still dish hunting for a dish the is in better shape as once the wire and pole are all set up swapping dishes is easy. Enjoy the pictures.

Nice pictures, they gave me dish fever, I've always thought a big dish was a thing of beauty since I first laid eyes on one, still is the same way. Your's looks to be in nice shape.
Now you need to go looking for that 15 footer:D

Your back yard looks like mine LOL.
I have a color 13" tv with a small table I use for dish tuning and installation.
I went as far as to install a GFI outlet on the back of my storage building to power my receiver and tv.

Dish looks great. Good job on your install.

My neighbor sold and installed BUDs in the early 80s and told me a good
tip when I was putting my first one in(it was a manual tune Channelmaster)
He said to use a small B&W TV at the dish for tuning as its better to tune with.
Nowadays almost everyone has some sort of fancy meter to tune with,I still use a
small tv to do mine.My well is about 10 ft from the dish and code requires an outlet
next to it ;^)

I know a few member here have meters, bird dogs and sat hawks, but most of us just use a tv with the signal meter pulled up on the screen.

most free to air receivers make good tuning tools since their quality meters react quickly to dish adjustments.

My 4dtv boxes are terrible in my opinion for tuning as the quality meter (counter) reacts so slow to changes in dish angle and feed horn adjustments.

I would hate to have to tune with only a 4dtv receiver.

Do you own a free to air receiver? If not I would recommend that you get one. They are a nice bonus to your 4dtv stuff.

Hey GPAT,
Question for you to ask your neighbor who sold and installed BUDs in the early 80s. Ask him if he ever heard of a "Dish Crane" and what did he use to put them up or tear them down during that time frame. Maybe he even has one to show you!!!:eureka I know that isn't the subject in this thread but couldn't help it when I read about your neighbor!

Thanks,
Tom
