Ok, I searched and couldn't find an answer.

Why is Directv moving channels? SpikeTV moved a couple weeks ago and also the Food, Discover and some others.

They screwed up some of my recordings

1 reason is grouping channels together better....someone will give a more techy reason as another like the old spike channel # is going away.

Discovery moved? It is no longer on 278?

I guess its all been said above:

1. They are re-grouping the channels to be in their correct category.

2. This re-org will also likely open up some category space for any new channels.

3. BRING on the moves; I am still praying to get the PPVs moved out of the 100's.

In the case of Spike TV, remember it used to be more country music oriented so it was up with the music channels like CMT, GAC, VH1, and MTV. Now that it is not, it is being moved more in line with what they currently air.

What is wrong with PPV channels being in the 100's?

1. Already new about Spike; we've been chatting about it and other in the other thread about chnl changes.

2. The vast majority of users don't by PPVs and they are kind of in the way; similar to candy and junk at the supermarket check stand; trying to tease you into an impulse buy. Most would prefer more watchable chnls to be placed into this range.

3. Some chnls will likely not be moved regardless of their actual content category because they hold contractual agreement to be placed in certain assignments; be it by number or within a particular range.

yea and that works sooo well....cnn is like what 202 and foxnews is 360 and they blow cnn out of the water in ratings.....sweet :D

DIrectv definately needs to group all news channels in the same range . It's stupid to go from 202 to 355 to see more news channels. How about move the pay per views out of the 100s and start a realignment with the shopping channels , then the news channels , sports, variety channels ,movies and then pay per views? I would like that line up much better than what it is right now.

As said before; some of those have agreements that we are not specifically privy too, on why they are where they are or why they are not close to others; CNN and Headline News have long been spoken as two of them.

There are many who have switched from Dishnetwork to DirecTV to get all the extra HD.

Guess were used to better channel grouping and the channels starting at 100 not 200 for non pay per view.

With Movies now in Instant on Demand over the internet with DirecTV on demand they should move the Pay per view and put it all under the On Demand guide plus move them to a higher channel block say 600 700 800 or 900

Ramy,
The move should not have messed with your recordings unless you did manual recordings, the HR series is suppose to be able to locate according to title, this way when it moves to a different channel , it follows, also suppose to work for a show changing dates or times .

I have no problem with the PPVs being in the 100s. Just remove them from your guide and you can jump from 99 directly to 200. What's the big deal about that?

I do agree about moving CNN from 202 to the 350 range to be with all the other news channels. And Headline News too.

Series recordings are based on the channel you pick to record your show on. Series will not record that show on another channel number so if the channel number is gone the series will die.

So if a show I record every week, changes networks it will not follow it ???
That contridicts what I was led to believe when the HR20's came out

If that were true you would have had whatever show you record recording on all channels. Say CSI for instance. It is on CBS and also other channels and it would record all them if you told it to but it doesn't work like that.

I could have swore that last year when a show changed nights, it followed it ......
Maybe it changed nights, but stayed on the same network.

I guess that is possible ...

where did food network allegedly go? i recorded ace of cakes this morning at 1:30 on channel 231 as always.

I thought it changed, because the SD version now shows up in my guide and I had taken it out. So I assumed it moved, maybe not.
