So are all the Mpeg4 in full 1920x1080i or is directv still downrez them to 1280x1080i ?

UH, OK? I see no mention of MPEG2 all I see is asking if MPEG4 is 1920x1080i or still downrez'd to 1280x1080i. Which implies that MPEG4 was at one time or currently being downrez'd

Non-progressive scan, so 1080i

Full 1080i is still the right term. Contrary to workers at the local appliance store "full" 1080 and "true" HD are meaningless terms thrown about when talking about 1080p sets.

1080i is full and true HD as it is one of the approved standards.

I agree with you technically, especially about the True and Full HD quote.

However, anything 720P and up is considered HD

1024x768 wouldn't be considered HD.

Kidding. My point is that the folks on sales floor are trying to make some new minimum requirement that anything other than 1080p isn't HD. They ignore the fact that 1080p is not a broadcast standard and is not available in any transmitted format in the US. Nor is it likely in the relatively near future.

I agree 100 %
IF you go to a true Audio Video store, Not BB, CC, ABC Warehouse, you will find that they actually know what they are talking about.
The box stores all hire the 16 year old that thinks he knows what he's talking about.

Since D* doesn't tell us and no one here has really quantified it, I don't think anyone can say what the resolution is. It really means nothing anyway as long as the picture we see looks good to us.

Which HD channels are still only broadcast in MPEG2? ESPN and ESPN2 look noticeably worse. Will this change with the new sat? Thanks.

This WILL change when the new sat is operational and D* changes it over to MPEG4.
All of the original HD channels in the 70-99 range were done in mpeg2, I'm not sure if they have ALL imgrated to have a mpeg4 replacement or not yet.
