Now that they've removed 10 of the Voom channels. Is the Ultimate package worth $10.00?

I hope that they plan to drop the price for this package because it's NOT worth $10.00.

I agree that the HD premium needs to drop....... Then again I'm from the old school HD folks who used to pay $8 for Discovery HD alone..... Then again it actually LOOKED like HD back then with way less compression.

With the lost of the ten voom channels, my answer goes from yes its worth it to no its not. And although some of the 10 lost were weak, they didn't really keep what I think are the 5 most popular voom channels. Anyone put up a poll on which 5 you would have kept?

I currently have the DishHD package......so I guess I'm a little lost. I thought the options were as followed: Dish HD essentials @ $10.00 monthly or "Dish HD ultimate" @ $20.00 monthly. Is HD ultimate still worth $20.00 a month without the 10 Voom channels? No! However, with MGM and Smithsonian(And whatever else they add) it would be worth $15.00 monthly IMO.

If they would add Encore HD (when it re-launches) into this package; as well as Mojo... then it might be.

I would assume that anyone paying for Starz and encore would get any HD encore channels. Of course I should not assume so much.

I checked my bill. They still have me with America's Everything Pak, HD Ultimate, SuperStation, and Multi Sport. Does that sound right RandllA? Is any of the super stations in HD? I may quit the Multi Sport. I am trying to figure out if it is just one HD sport channel I get. I think it comes in on 129. I have to leave that LNB disconnected all the time anyway because there is no five satellite switch available. I think the Satelliteguysus "The List" rep is still working on updating it. I bet he has a big headache.

Charles,

With the Ultimate HD package you get the following extra HD channels:

Universal HD, MGM HD, WFN HD, NHL HD, HDNet Movies, NBA HD and Smithsonian HD. Are those worth $10.00? Only you can answer that question.

The Multi Sport package gets you the RSN from out of your area but you won't see the out of your area Pro Sports games. Since you don't have 129 connected you are not getting all of them.

I don't think any of the Superstations is in HD but someone will correct if I'm wrong.

Very true. Just wondering if Dish would throw that bone to HD Ultimate after starving the poor pup. Either that or TMC HD (one of the other rumored uplinked channels). The ONLY reason I would even begin to speculate on that would be because the West Coast feeds for each of those networks(Encore and TMC) are in the AT 250. They are able to pull the west feeds out of the movie packs for the AT250, perhaps they would be able to pull the east coast feeds for the HD Ult.

(Getting greedy - if they did both that would be 4 HD movie channels in the HD ult package)

Wow, how do you figure all this out so fast? Thanks. The Dishnetwork site says that Fox Mid West HD (my area) is channel 418. My guide has 418 only SD coming in on 119. I guess I need to hook back up 129 and see what I get. My bill says the Ultimate is $20.00. Where are you getting the $10.00? I thought Dish was keeping five of the Voom channels. I like Equator and Rave and can't find them now. Did I miss something along the way?

HD ultimate is $20 a month. If you can live without the remaining 7 channels (Universal HD, MGM HD, WFN HD, NHL HD, HDNet Movies, NBA HD and Smithsonian HD), you can get HD Essential for $10 a month and still get the rest of your current HD line-up.

The last 5 Vooom channels went dark (on Dishnet) at midnight last night.

OK, thanks for your help.

Let's see...

MGM: currently showing old movies. Pretty good but none I want to see yet.

Universal: some good stuff there but most of what I watched on this channel is now on SciFi or USA. Now they show commercials in their movies.

HDNet movies: again, some pretty good movies. Nothing I'm planning to watch recently though.

Smithsonian: I'm worried that the constant orange logo is going to burn my screen. They seem to repeat a lot of stuff. Sound familiar?

WFN: not really a HD channel yet.

NHL, NBA: not interested in sports but I understand some are.

Conclusion: study the EPG for a week or two, then drop if nothing "compelling"

I have been watching a Dish TV ad on channel 9470 about the new HD channels. It says to find out more go to this site. DISH Network -- Dish HD Check it out. Gives you channel numbers. I can't find it in the regular dishnet site.

That is the list of what was recently launched. It does not discuss future additions or indicate what tier gets what.

Well Since Dish took 15 channels out of that plan I think they should lower it to at least $5 Bucks.. Most of the New HD Channels they will add or should say National Channels will be in your Dish HD Essentials Plans not the Ultimate Plan. So I think they should lower the Ultimate plan since its been reduce and there really not too many more channels they could add to it.. So this would be something to ask Dish at the Team Summit Show.. :)
