Let's all pray for a D* logo on their page in the near future.

D*'s said in the past they're not interested in the Voom channels (the channels that nobody's heard of is what they called them IIRC). If I had to guess V* will probably be no more shortly, sounds like they weren't making much, if any, money and now they've lost their biggest customer.

Yes, but this could be a home run in terms of sticking another stake into Dish's heart. D* would be foolish not to consider it, especially if Voom is willing to listen about content modification.

There was a poll here and IIRC it was like less then 20% of folks said they would switch to D* if they picked up V* channels. And Claude G has said that most of the new customers that he signs up don't take the V* channels so it looks like it's a very small number of potential customers for a niche service that would take up transponders that D* might feel will be useful carrying other channels to help their bottom line.

I said it long ago...Rainbow Media should have marketed the entire 15 channels lineup for $1.50 per subscriber (long-term contracts) and let the provider determine what channels they offered as capacity became available. I even mentioned they should sell airtime on channels like HDNews and perhaps inject a commercial or two between movies. Although I think Dish Network is going to pay to settle this lawsuite, there is no doubt the folks at VOOM Networks have been asleep at the wheel. To be honest, I always wondered by VOOM didn't schlock their wares more aggressively to cable/satellite...until I saw what a sweet deal they had with EchoStar.

Source

An EchoStar affiliate, EchoStar Media Holdings, got a 20% stake in Voom HD as part of that sale. And the Voom-EchoStar affiliation agreement also flowed out of that transaction.

The Voom-EchoStar 2005 carriage deal, which Voom described as a “multi-billion dollar, 15-year contract,” called for EchoStar to pay a subscriber fee of $3.25 a month per HD customer in the first year of deal, with annual increases until it reached $6.43 a month in the pact’s final year.

EchoStar charged that Voom has violated a provision of their carriage deal where Voom agreed to spend $100 million a year on a 21-channel version of Voom, up to an aggregate of $500 million. But Voom reduced its number of services to only 15, so it argues that its annual required spending “is currently no more than $82 million.”

That's what worries me. I can still see the Cablevision provider generating at least SOMETHING, but Dish was their biggest client, and Charlie knows it. Maybe the other poster is right, and this is just "Charlie being Charlie," and throwing a tantrum to get his way..

Yeah, and maybe tomorrow we'll all wake up and this won't have happened.

F'ing Charlie.

Dish Network: Bring Back MonstersHD! Petition

I'm still trying to get better info on The Shield and Rescue Me since they do have BD releases BUT there have been other shows that were shown in SD that have been released on BD in 4:3 format too.

It's quite possible to create 4:3 HD. Of course, most TV shows in HD shoot with both 16:9 and 4:3 in mind, as people don't think it's HD if it's in 4:3. 4:3 HD is mostly for content originally made in that aspect ratio (older movies, etc.). I have no idea re the shows in question.

Man, this is a completely and utter shock to me. I wanted Dish for years strictly for MonstersHD. I finally got Dish about 1.5 years ago and have been enjoying Monsters HD since. With Voom gone, I'm pretty much gone from Dish. I'll wait it out to see where Voom ends up (hopefully somewhere) and that is where I'll be going. My only loyalty is to that channel. I absolutely getting to see all the high def horror.

I'm so disappointed that Dish dropped Voom and, in particular, MonstersHD. Aside from the networks, it was really the only HD channel I watched with any regularity. I just "spoke" with a CSM online to express my displeasure and he blew me off and told me to go to DirecTV or cable if I wasn't happy with their offerings. After this, I just might. :(

Right now I'm thinking about keeping Dish as a just bear bones, to keep my large amount of DVR stuff until I can figure out a way to burn the files. Then switch over to Direct TV completely. For the total package, D* is less a month and you get more for your money. I never thought I would be thinking so strongly about switching. Instead of $140 I'd be paying $114 and getting many more channels to boot. I guess I'll wait a bit longer to see what's in store.

Man, I've never been so mad at a company in my life!!

I did this 3 months ago.

Don't feel bad (even though you will, I'm sure) I was told it would cost me 200.00 to do anything about it..$200.00 to buy out my contract..

I heard that Comcast made a major media purchase on CNBC, you think it's the Voom HD channels? Could it be that E* unloaded onto the cable operator?

Sitting here cruising my channels a few minutes ago, looking for something to watch. I found myself really missing the VOOM channels. There were about 5 of them that I watched fairly regularly.

I'd love to have the old Guy TV channel back, along with Monsters, RAVE, and Equator.

When I upgraded to HDTV a few years back, I stayed with E* solely because they had VOOM.

I cant wait for DirecTV to now get the Voom Contract. I bet since they have no big contract, directv could get it for $2 a sub and sell it for $3.95 per sub like a movie channel package.

That would be an in your face to Charlie.

It would be terribly hypocritical for them to pick up Voom after the advertising talking about the channels "nobody has ever heard of." I don't see D* picking up Voom.
