Recently,

umpires have blown some home-run calls in the past week or so, including one that involved HD MM's Tribe.

So,

do YOU think it's time MLB uses instant replay?

I say, yes.

Also, it could have changed the lives of Don Denkinger and Jeffrey Maier.

nope for the simple fact of what would be allowed to have replay?

not like the games are looooooong already
Why do people always say this. The average football game is longer than the average baseball game and football has more down time than baseball.

Baseball NEEDS Instant Replay.....

Ice,
You mentioned about what it would be used for,
There is talk about it being tested in the minors and fall leagues soon.
It would ONLY cover home runs and plays down the lines.
No balls and strikes, no plays at the plate (although it might be good for plays at the plate) ...

Yes, just because of the blown calls the Yanks got this week. I hate the Yankees, but they got robbed of 2 homers by 2 bad umpire calls.

It would not add alot of extra time to baseball games. THe replay should only be used for two things, determining homerun balls and plays at home plate.

Yes, but just for HR's and fair/foul down the lines. That's it.

No. The umps get most of 'em called right...and the small percentage they miss sure leads to a lot of fun. Billy Martin and Earl Weaver made a living spectacle argument both the good and bad calls...they never would have nearly as much to say if instant replay were available.

Im not for instant replay, the game takes too long as it is.

On top of that, then there is the issue of everytime one of the coaches does not like a paticular call, such as a ball or a strike we then have to go to time out for a replay.

+1. Completely Agree.

The MLB is planning on testing the use of Instant Replay in the Arizona Fall League.

If that experiment proves practical and successful, MLB then is likely to continue the experiment next March during the World Baseball Classic and spring-training games.

If no insurmountable problems arise, baseball could begin using replay -- though only to decide home run calls -- as soon as next season.

What is yet to be determined is whether calls would be reviewed by a "replay umpire" in each stadium, as the National Football League does, or in the MLB offices in New York, a system that would more resemble the National Hockey League.

Claude,
Last week, instant replay knew the CORRECT results before the umpires even got together.

Everytime they can't figure out a call they get together for 5-10 minutes and talk about it and say, "Did you see it ?" I missed it, Did you "

They can put a mlb official in the booth like they do in other sports without much trouble.

Don't forget you then have the manager coming out to talk with them about the play also.

MikeI,
Have the Yankees finished painting the FOUL pole YET, it's only been a 100 years now. Did they somehow run out of paint and not have enough money to buy more ?

There is no reason they SHOULDN'T have it. Umpires should not be allowed to dictate and/or alter the outcome of a game by making incorrect decisions. Other than balls/strikes (which would be helpful to some umpires...since they can't figure out the strike zone), instant replay should be allowed. The game has lasted this long without instant replay, because it didn't exist until recently. It could be similar to football's approach, with each team being given 2 per game through innings 1-7, and only the replay official could make the decision to look at the tape in the last 2 innings. If the managers don't support instant replay, they don't have to challenge.

I disagree with just home runs and fair/foul because there are many other plays that impact a game. Not every run scored is due to home runs.

Quite honestly, the technology is so advanced that it is nearly impossible to make the wrong call in these situations with replay. It is a shame they would rather have the wrong call be made than to ruin the so called "purity" of the game. What is right may not be popular, but it is still the right thing to do.

Well said.
