I ordered a HD recevier to upgrade an old regular receiver. This was my third time upgrading to an hd receiver. Previous times - a technician would come out, swap receivers out and get everything working. This time when I called customer service - they said they would just overnight the receiver and walk me thru the activation process on new reveicer - that it was easy. I said ok. I got the receiver and a power cord - no component cables, no hdmi cable, no b covnerter box - Just a power cord. I called and argued with them that the previous upgrades I had recevied all the proper cables to get the receiver working. They said when they ship out recievers that is what hapens. They were able to overnight me b converter box - but that was it. Has anyone else had this problem.

It sounds like you got a refurbished unit rather than a new one. Those cables are included with new receivers. I would "request" that they send me the cables that you are missing.

In my recent upgrade to mpeg 4 receivers from the D*Tivo units, there were NO cables in the boxes that the installer brought with him, only a power cord. He actually used the previous cables I was using. He only had to add the b converters. These "looked" like brand new HR 21-100's.

There have been some threads about this on this or the other board. The non-retail boxs are no longer being shipped with the cables or convertors. This probably saves DirecTV a few bucks per unit. If you still have the box, check and see if it says "NC" near the model number. NC = no cables. I just picked up an HR21-200 at COSTCO last week and it had all of the cables an convertors in the box.

Yep, HR21NC-100 on both "plain brown wrapper" boxes = No Cables. Definately not retail boxes, No glitz and glamour.

I guess I was wrong, then. That sucks that they are cutting costs this way.

yea it sucks for us techs too, they waited for 3 weeks to announce to us that they are no longer including...

25' Phone Cord
Component Cable
Composite Cable
HDMI Cable

In the box's for any receivers. We can get them from our warehouses but have to request them separately from the receivers. If you can track down a D* van, I am positive the guy will give you the cable you need.
