In the past couple weeks, I began to notice that picture quality for the HD channles are not quite as good as before.

Has anyone else notice the same thing? I wonder if Dish has compressed the feeds a little too much especially after all the new hd channels added?

Also, for those of you lives in bay area, how happy are you with the picture quality of channel 419 "CSNBA"?
I was watching the giants game on 419 for the fist time tonight and I must say I am quite disappointed..
There are a lot of macro blocking, especially when they change camera shot or zoom in/out..

ditto here. i noticed it as well. after losing voom the overall pq seems to have taken a hit. voom was by far the best. but even before that it seems like most of the hd channels were better then they are now. i thought it was my tv too.

Well, I am of the opinion that as soon as they removed Voom, there was no way for people to compare HD Lite to real HD, and they could compress the hell out of the picture, hoping nobody will notice.

That's ridiculous - the only difference between Voom and the other HD channels was source material.

So, if you are saying that the other channels are not using good source material, then the PQ problem is with the channels, not Dish.

I happened to tune to CSN-Bay Area-HD last night for a minute just to "finally see the long requested channel", and the PQ was much poorer than any other Dish HD channel.

I'm pretty sure that the feed from ComcastSports was poor.

I also watched the new Weather Channel HD and the PQ was excellent.

PS The NY Locals were moved to a spot beam recently, and they may be giving them less bandwidth than before. That is specific to the NY Locals, and doesn't appy to "all Dish HD channels".

I have both Dish and Directv - both connected via HDMI - and I have to say the HD picture quality is terrible on DISH. The DISH picture lacks color vividness, and sharpness. Yes, it has become worse since VOOM left. If you think your regional sports network looks bad in HD - take a look at FSN Pittsburgh - it looks like you are watching it through a kaliedoscope. There are tons of macroblocking images and that ghosting effect from a channel being too compressed. I did not spend money on a quality HD setup to watch something that bad. Therefore, I'm stuck in a contract with DISH while having DirecTV as well.

My HD disappeared from my lineup the other morning and I noticed (as I said before), that all the SD stuff w/out HD is great.. no ghosting or huge green blocks on a black background... but once I power-cycled my receiver and the HD restored, to SD was back to crap.

So.. Does the receiver compress the image when you have HD listed in the lineup? Thats the only thing that makes sense to me.

Even cable tv does not have the best HD signal and it already cost double the price for poor HD picture.

So I am not the only one feel the PQ has suffered recently..
What's the point of adding more HD channels if we are only getting HD lite..

I noticed this too, every HD channel. It has to be an increase in compression when they added the new channels and made room for more. (It did happen at the same time as the Voom removal, but I think it has nothing to do with Voom, just compression).

This is why I recently asked, who is compressing more these days E* or D*.

The HD picture quality has been crappy and pixelated since the new channels were added.

This is plan "B" after their failed launch - great plan.

I wonder how much longer will customers put up with their games. First we add more hd channels, than we take them away. Now the pictures quality is down. Man, I don't care about the contract. I would do anything to get out of the contract and dump them, including pay the fee for the remaining of the contract. And that's what I did. Now I am happy with D*. Good HD picture quality, good SD quality and lots of HD channels. People please wake up and realize that sometimes it's better to pay a little more for better service.
DUMP Them NOW!!!!!!!!!!! That will send a message.

Except for their lackluster HD DVR, I am quite happy with FiOS TV. Now, if only their billing system would work right!
