I don't get it but they made it seem on several of the 180 channels that something big was about to happen. Now it's 5:00 and nothing new.

Has there been any rumors of them adding this one in HD? I saw it say "this is also available on Planet Green HD".

You'd think that this would be an ideal HD channel. I replaced all of our lights with the CFL's that did make the light bill go down by over 100 bucks a month. It cost over $14,000 to make the house solar power. We're thinking about it but damn that sounds high for a few solar panels. That new hotwater heater tank thing that heats water from on top of the your roof is pretty cool too. Somehow it works when you need hot water it sends it back down through the pipes and through the hotwater heater to the tub at a real cheap cost or no cost at all on your monthly bill. Can't remember which.

I think that is a great idea for a new channel as there has been a lot larger emphasis on going green lately with Global Warming finally being realized by more and more people and it making the news more often as well.

Over 31,000 scientist say that Global Warming is not happening. The one's that are saying it are those who receive grants (government money) to do research. The planet Earth has actually cooled, and the Polar Bears are not in any sort of danger.

Knowledge is a good thing.

Now let's go get that Alaskan oil! (BTW: did you know that the state of Alaska has sued the federal government since the feds claimed that the polar bears are in some sort of danger...?)

But to really "Go green" shouldn't we be turning our TVs off?? ;)

I am by no means an environmentalist, but I am in favor of saving money. If going green can save money and reduce overall energy costs then I am all for it. That being said, I have watched some of the "green" programming on the Discovery suite of channels and have found some of it very informative. Not sure I would watch a whole channel dedicated to the theme, but there may be someone out there that would. Couldn't do any worse than the Discovery Times channel did.

edit - it couldn't do any worse than the Discovery Home channel that it replaces either.

Going green is going to increase energy costs many times over since human progress has basically been brought to a screeching halt by this "green" sham. People will finally get the real wake up call shortly and return to reality from their fantasy land trip that the media and liberals have been portraying. It's just another "cause" like famine in Africa and AIDS amongst others over the years. As those causes that were fashionable and vogue to be a part of came and went, this will too. Unfortunately a lot of damage has been done in unnecessary legislation and regulations and we're all going to pay for it.....all for nothing.

Holy cow, you saved $100/month on lighting alone? Our total electric bill is less than $100/month, for a 2600 sq ft house. What are you doing that needs so much light?

I can just see all the energy star commercials on that network now. "Save the enviroment and save money at the same time!" All you have to do is replace your old klunker refrigerator with a nice energy star compliant model, made by our advertisers....

Well, let's look at the energy star refrigerators. The old avacado green fridges would last a good 40 years. These days you are lucky to get 10 out of em.

"They cost less to operate"
Yes, they will save you money on your electric bill, but you will have to buy three additional appliances in the time you would have had to buy one before.
"It's better for the enviroment" Actually, now you have 4 dead fridges in a landfill instead of one. The old fridge had more steel in it and more components that could be recycled, the new ones are mostly plastic. Lets add to it the amount of fossil fuels used to ship it from overseas - stateside - and to your home.

Now, for the same productivity you have three additional trips worth of emissions from an ocean bound vessel (or aircraft), three extra trips to the store to find new units (meaning three more expensive purchases - and pressure to get three more extended service contracts - but lets not go that route), three extra delivery vehicles emissions worth of drop off, three more plastic coffins sitting in the landfill....

is buying green really being green? I wonder if they will ever address issues like this on planet green... or if they will come up for a good use for all the mercury in the CFL bulbs???

Many people are skeptical here, but if we would have been serious about alternate energy sources in the 70's when we realized we needed something other than oil products, we would not be paying so much for energy. It all begins with awareness, but unfortunately we don't change our ways until it hurts our pockets. My only problem with this channel is it has boreing content.
