I much prefer Scully's call. Overall, there are very few good announcers any more. I grew up in the Bay Area and as TCrowne said, there was nothing more exciting than hearing BYE BYE Baby!
Announcers these days are looking to create their own saying or niche. Here in AZ, the D-Backs have about the worst broadcast possible. Daron Sutton enjoys screaming just to scream. If the D-Backs are down 4-0, at the end of an inning, he screams, Let's score some RUNS! Then you see folks in the stands with their signs of "Let's score some RUNS!" and it encourages them to do more of the same stupid stuff. Fact of the matter is, the fans simply want to be on TV and they'll write anything on a sign to be the focus of attention.
You've all seen the AFLAC questions during a game. These guys will ask a question that has several answers (name the last six players to score on a bases loaded walk). Daron and his partner Mark Grace will start answering the question with their guesses. They have a buzzer and a bell and throughout the fourth inning will play their game, answer questions and either ring or buzz. If you've listened to this bit for more than a dozen games, you'd be completely irritated. You'd never hear this child's play on a "professional" Royals broadcast. I sub to Extra Innings and have not heard a broadcast team worse than my local DBacks.
But I digress....the bottom line is...these announcers have THE best job in sports. They watch a game, describe what happens, have a level of celebrity and many of them simply don't appreciate how good they have it.
